Nice game but.... [Posted on 2008-02-05] I played the game for about two weeks and I must admit for the first three days I was having a good time, by the 4th day I realize how reptitive the game is. The MOB's are a good challenge, but get boring. All travel is by foot or teleporters, there are no vehicles at all!
I played other online games like planetside, EVE, EQ, EQ2, BF2142,BF2, SWG, Matrix, etc and I always look for certain qualities that may a game seem fresh. So Tabula rasa is nice for a quick fix of sci-fi combat but the fun will wear off quickly when you realize that it is the same thing over and over again. To add the plot is a bit depressing it sounds like the humans are a dying race and are fighting a fruitless never ending war. Enjoy the grind if you have nothing better to do.
Best new MMO out there [Posted on 2008-02-26] This is a really good game. First game I've played done by Richard Garrett and its been pretty fun.
I originally played this game for about 2 weeks and then stopped as the initial release was missing alot of things that other MMOs have (auction house, redistribute talent points, smarter NPCs, more difficult combat [It was too easy to mop up like 30 NPCs with a shoty... more tedious than fun because you know you'd own them, even at your same lvl]).
I picked this game back up after month and half and they released a new patch that addressed alot of the things I didn't like about the game. Military surplus now serves as an auction house, better AI on NPCs, color grades of weapons (for those WoWers out there - gray, green, blue, purple, red), more difficult combat, new animations etc. I've heard their coming out with mechanized mounts (sorry for the WoW jargon) that you can drive and have weapons on... that would totally keep me hooked!
The world feels like a battle is going on.. which adds to the intensity of the game.
My only other complaint is the graphics are kinda mediocre... they look like graphics that would have been awesome in say like... 2001-2003. They aren't terrible, but I would say not as nice as WoW (although WoW to me is a bit cartoony). The logos effects are kinda cool when you cast them but could probably be a bit more flashy IMO. The explosions are pretty decent too.
I would recommend getting a microphone and maybe a mouse with extra buttons to help better cycle through the left action bar weapons and right action bar abilities/skills. Although, you will be fine with the keyboard... I just found in a bit awkward.
This game rocks [Posted on 2008-03-12] This game is a load of fun. They are constantly adding content to this game. This game is very original and fast paced. It is fun to use shotguns and rifles instead of the usual magic items or spells. You get a feel that you are always fighting for you life.
As of this time almost all serious bugs have been fixed. New hybrid classes have been added. They have added new content that would normally be saved for an expansion.
This game is well worth the money.
Great Idea...just not quite there [Posted on 2008-04-09] I've played a lot of computer games over the years and was very interested in trying a MMO mixed with a first person shooter. I read the reviews on other gaming sites saying that this game wasn't that great but when it went on sale here on amazon I decided to give it a shot. Well I have to report the reviews are right, the concept of the game is great but the implementation is just not there. After playing World of Warcraft this game leaves much to be desired.
Awesome! [Posted on 2008-05-08] Awesome game! It has a great community and an awesome development team for patching. Game content is good and there is multiple things to do. The world seems to be massive so there are lots of places to explore. The in-game tutorial is excellent and only takes about 20 minutes (so it doesn't overstay it's welcome). Only thing I didn't like if the camera is 3rd person. There is no 1st person mode which is how I prefer to play most games.
