Rival Realms is a good game for it's age. You have access to many function that you don't have in other games from that time, like Age of Empires and others. Your men can patrol, use formations (although they don't stay in the formations when they walk) and the units become uniqe after a while because they gain more strenght and experience points, like in role-playing games. They landscape is very realistic (not like the cartoon-graphic in Warcraft) and another plus is that in the map editor you can name your units. The game music is also good.

One thing that annoys me is the comments that the units speak when they are ordered to do something are sometimes too long. The serves, for an example somtimes sing a short song when they are put to work. This is a good and funny game, worth trying.

I bought this game primarily on price. In the past, I purchased really great games for low prices. Not so with this one.

The best way to describe this abomination of a RTS game is to compare it to Warcraft, which it is an apparent clone of. The tutorial is pathetic, the graphics are atrocious, and the most annoying aspect of the game was the voices. The game was made by Titus, an English software firm, so the voiceovers had an English accent. What's that? You're bothered by accents? Oh no, I just took issue with what they were saying! You'd click on an Elf and they would blather out "DO I KNOW YOU????" The designers were trying to make a little joke with that. It wasn't appreciated, but apparently it was needed because the game is that terrible.

Finally, I tried playing this via dialup with a friend and try as we might, we could not connect because the software is that buggy.

Spend your on money on games that are fun, like Age of Wonders (I, II, Shadow Magic) or the Warlords series. If you do buy this game, you will regret it.
