No stars if I could [Posted on 2005-10-23] I was expecting great things, between the price and the Rowenta reputation. Boy have I been disappointed.
Since when can one not use steam on wool? That's what's indicated on the dial - the "steam" area doesn't start till well past the "wool" setting. duh,
I could live with that BUT this darn thing spits and drools. Spits - leaks water when pressing, this pressing cotton on the cotton setting. Every time I make a pass with the iron it leaves 2-3 water spots each the size of a dime. It also occasionally leaves a dark smudge as if there were dirt on the sole plate. Then on dark clothing it spits out some white substance that looks like it might be calcium deposits - though I don't use hard water in this iron.
Feh. For what I paid I could have sent my shirts to the laundry for six months or more.
Never again, Rowenta!
Not worth it [Posted on 2005-10-27] I purchased this iron February 2004, believing that it was a top of the line product. This iron caught on fire while ironing, I had it for approximately 1 1/2 years. I have had ten dollar irons that have lasted longer than this. I'm very disappointed with this product.

Heat [Posted on 2007-01-09] I used a British iron from this German manufacturer in England. It was unreal with heat. Although the American one is not quite as high in heat, it is still an excellent iron. Only thing I really hate about it (when using starch, you have to clean with a soft scrub because of buildup).
Rowenta Professional Luxe DM880-no useful service life [Posted on 2007-08-15] I own the above appliance for 3 years. It has a wonderful design and when new, functioned admirably. Well worth the 100+ dollars spent. Unfortunately, the service life is extremely short. Used for household ironing only, and not very much in my opinion, the on-light now frequently cycles between red and orange so you are never sure if it is heating properly. The performance level is terrible at this point. I tried calling Rowenta customer service but the auto answerer told me they were "all out at a meeting" and then hung up on me. Not a very good start. They could certainly learn a customer service lesson from Eddie Bauer, LL Bean, Land's End, etc. I will try one more time. Currently, I recommend that you avoid this product unless you like buying new ones frequently at a premium price.
BEWARE! this iron is great for about 2 years [Posted on 2008-03-21] I've had this iron for two years and paid $100.00US for it, I have taken very good care of this iron and have used it on one shirt and one pair of pants 5 days a week for the past two years. Until last Wednesday it has been a wonderful value, the iron is built so well it almost irons by itself. On Wednesday the power cord shorted out, if you google it, you will find that many other customers have had the same problem. The solution is to pay $50.00 to have it repaired or buy a new one. I'm a handy guy and thought I could just order the power cord ($29.00), open the back, pop it in and keep going, alas you need a special tool (available to Rowenta repair shops only) to open the back so that idea is a bust. Bottom line, it's a great iron if you don't mind spending $50.00 a year to own it, I for one find this galling to say the very least (I'm being nice). I bought a Rowenta thinking it would be a superior iron but it seems that along with a wonderful iron they seem to have learned how to manufacture obsolescence quite well as well. My advise skip it, the price doesn't guarantee the quality in this case.
