I did a lot of research on ADF Scanners and the Microtek SCANMAKER 5950 PRO appeared to have the best/most features for the least amount of money. The main reason I got this machine was because of the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) but it's not the best feature on this machine. I have other complaints too:

1) Microtek does NOT offer free tech support. You have to pay to get help.

2) Images that are scanned through the ADF come out VERY LIGHT as opposed to scanning on the flatbed. Big disappointment.

3) If I scan more than 5+ pages through the ADF, I get an error message and have to start all over again. Frustrating!

4) The software that comes with the product is temperamental and seems to have a few kinks. Could be why I am having problem #3 above.

5) This machine is noisy and loud when scanning.

6) The flatbed lid is heavy and can slow you down when you have multiple things to scan.

7) ADF machines, like this one, have rollers that need to be replaced every so often, depending on how frequently you use it. So this isn't a maintenance-free machine.

8) Purchased this item from ACE PHOTO and DIGITAL. Made several calls to the seller and left messages with someone there. Told them the product appears to be defective and that I would like to return it for a refund or get a credit for another scanner. Based on their return policy, it was too late for me to return the item. A woman there said she had to have her supervisor call Microtek to see if the manufacturer would accept a returned, defective item and credit the seller who, in-turn, would credit me (or so I assumed). Then she or someone there would call me back... well... I NEVER received a call back. I would NOT recommend buying from this seller. Poor customer service and poor return policy, even on defective products.

The only good things I have to say about this machine are that it's built solid on the outside, and it scans fast (no warm up). But without a quality ADF, it's a total waste.
