Easy. Seriously. [Posted on 2008-02-08] It was pretty ridiculously easy to assemble this. It doesn't come with instructions, but it doesn't need to. There are exactly TWO things to plug in, which are completely self explanatory based on there size and if you can't figure out how to hook it up, maybe you shouldn't be dealing with computer innards in the first place. The CD that comes with it is completely useless because pretty much any computer made in the last decade has Plug and Play capabilities.
Now, on the sizing issue, I have a Western Digital 160G drive and it fit perfectly. It very well may be too small for other brands, but for my drive it's aces.
I gave it 4 stars because it is not the best looking casing, but it's one of the cheapest so I don't care.
Fire Hazard! [Posted on 2008-03-17] I purchased two of these enclosures thinking that a manufacturer can't possibly screw up a metal box and a power supply. Apparently I was wrong! Less than 24 hours after installing my hard drive into the enclosure, I heard a popping sound and then smelled melting plastic. The power supply was completely fried, and I have a dead hard drive to top it off. I tried the second enclosure as well and started smelling burnt plastic immediately after plugging it in. I would strongly caution you against purchasing this enclosure.
Works great [Posted on 2008-04-04] Cant complain about this nice little enclosure,... loaded an old hard drive, plugged it in,... XP saw it just fine. Nice plain silver/black finish. Only problem was the plastic stand was broken but I wasnt going to use it anyway.
Worthless [Posted on 2008-04-13] The usb enclosure wants you to have a Fat32 formatted drive to install it? Acceptable maybe 5 years ago but not today! Buy another enclosure!
Great value! [Posted on 2008-06-09] Works well, costs roughly half as much as the "low-end" enclosures you'll find at the big box stores. Doesn't do much to muffle the noise of the hard drive, but that's a minor nit as far as I'm concerned.
