Works fine. Wish it had power over usb though. [Posted on 2008-03-25] I thought I would be able to take this with me and use my SATA drives with USB but you also need to take the rather large power adapter also. All the external usb enclosures are able to power over USB so why can't this?
Sabrent SATA adapter [Posted on 2008-05-28] Works perfect. Helped me diagnose my laptop problems and save all my data in turn.
works. Lots of cables. [Posted on 2008-06-02] Works as advertised. I just needed to connect to a drive temporarily(hour or so), and disconnect. I wouldn't want to use it long term. 4 different cables to connect together. Obviously no case for the drive, could see a drive being knocked off the desk or something.
a bit mixed on performance [Posted on 2008-07-15] I bought this to transfer info out of my boyfriends laptop HD (the laptops motherboard was fried and I had hopes that the HD was fine).
On my computer the product worked like a charm.
I got the information no problem. My boyfriends computer was a different story. We couldn't get it to recognize the machinery at all. we both run XP and his computer is brand new and mine is quite old so I cannot fathom why it wouldn't load.
the instructions are pretty useless, they are in engrish, so I hope you are good with plug and play items if you buy this. Also no hope for a driver for XP.
so its a roll of the dice with this item
External SATA hard drive connected to Ubuntu linux [Posted on 2008-07-21] These cables allowed me to transfer the data from the hard-drive on a NAS device whose firmware was rewritten. The NAS device was unable to display my earlier partitions. I had to extract the hard drive and connect it, using the SATA-to-USB cable, to another Linux machine. Ubuntu-Linux recognized the "missing" partitions and allowed me to read/write to those partitions. Data transfers in the gigabyte range take a couple of minutes at the most. Remember to allow adequate ventilation for your external components! Good luck.
