salt lake 2002 [Posted on 2002-04-10]
This game is one of the most boring games that I have ever played! Even on easy mode, u always come in last (except, usually, on downhill skiing). Anyway, once your done beating that, you look at the other five events and find that you don't want to play any of them. This game was appealing to me for the first 30 minutes that I played it. I have to write a review for it and it is almost terrible to sit down and do that. The only good thing about this game is the GREAT graphix! They are VERY nice.

This game is very underrated. [Posted on 2003-01-09]
As of this writing, I bought the PC version a few days ago, and as a fan of the Olympics, I think this game is well done. However, while there are some pluses, there are some minuses as well.

Pluses for this game would be the graphics (of course), and for the rather intuitive gameplay of it. For best results, you want to obtain a controller that has the look and feel of a PS2 controller. I would recommend the ski-jumping and snowboarding events, because I cleared those ones pretty easily. In ski jumping, all you need to do is get the wind to a high level (20 max), take off on the red mark, and align the skis so that the arrows are green. Then, when the button sign comes, if you press it at the right time, you get a telemark landing. In snowboarding, you don't even need to crouch or jump turn. All you need is a good start (using the power bar), and navigate the route already laid out! (And then, after the last gate, maybe you can crouch to gain a little bit more speed, especially when you're neck-and-neck with your opponent.) I'm working on the bobsleigh one, I've yet to beat Legend level there, since in that level, you need to go under 45 seconds, something that I have yet to accomplish.. After that, aerials (I got as far as Intermediate), slalom, and downhill are the next good events. But most importantly, I can get to play as Australia! Even though I'm not from Oz, I love the Aussies to death! And even though at the real Salt Lake Winter Olympics they only got 2 medals, both gold, as of this writing, I won 19 medals so far, all gold. I bet you'd wonder what would happen if Australia won that much. The Freeform mode also gets you a really good feel for what you need to do, and that makes the game even more sensational. The soundtrack for the game is very catchy, and toe-tapping, too.

Of course, there are some minuses as well. First, you only have six events. If there was curling, Super G, speed skating (Long and short track), the games that Konami's version of Nagano 98 had, it would be more appealing. Hopefully, Eidos will rework their plot for Torino 2006, and add the events that Konami's Nagano 98 had, so that all parties are satisfied. Also, there was one example in which the downhill for novice level could not give me good control on turning the slopes, and I seem to be behind in time. Weird, isn't it? Also, the commentary was sub-par in that it repeated itself. A larger list of commentary that is 50, maybe 100 times larger would be optimal for freshness and feeling when winning an event. I also think the Classic mode should be shelved, since arcades and Olympics do not go hand in hand, IMHO. Next, you only have 16 nations to play as. WTF!? I was hoping I could play as all of the nations that had competed...More songs for the game would be even better, too. Finally, the player's appearances just didn't mix in. Since when do we have a black person representing Russia or Switzerland? Wow, an Australian Aborigine playing in women's freestyle aerials! And some of the slalom character's faces looked the same! They need to improve on the ethnic faces and skin tones of the characters, because they don't look legit. (Though I would let the Australian competitor in aerials slide...I think that would be a first if it really happened! Cross your fingers...)

Other than that, this is a well-worked game, although it needs some, make that, A LOT OF fixing up for Torino 2006. I would definitely recommend this game to those who bleed Citius Altius Fortius. But, if you don't bleed that, don't bother to play this.

Salt Lake City 2002 [Posted on 2004-03-05]
I think salt lake city is a very good game, but i don't understand there is no speedskating in the game that's not
very good i think because speedskating is one of the greatest and most popular sports you could have by a olympic game. I'll give this game four stars because the graphics are very good and it is a good continuation on sydney 2000. The only thing that i gave a - point in that way is the speedskating. I hope that sport is in there in Torino 2006

Outdated Non-Functioning No Support [Posted on 2005-03-18]
Eidos Interactive doesn't support this game. It won't run on advanced graphics cards. "This is a known issue with Salt Lake 2002 for the PC. The Nvidia GeForce 4/FX/6 and ATI Radeon 9000 series of video cards came out after the game was released and unfortunately they are not compatible. Since the game's developer, ATD, went out of business, there will not be any fixes made for this game. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the incompatibility."
I installed it on an earlier computer and it is just a lame outdated game. I only bought it because there are so few skiing games available in the USA. I may try to return it, but feel like I should have researced it better. I am new to computer games so maybe I'll just take the loss and be more careful next time.

Bad Game, Good Music [Posted on 2005-05-21]
I didn't like the game so much, but the soundtrack to it is good, except I can't find it anywhere.
