If you have Sony VAIO, read this... [Posted on 2007-06-07] I have bought this baby about 3 days ago and I was facing a strange problem. On my Sony VAIO (VGN-S5HP/B) with Windows XP SP2, I was getting only a black screen. After a countless various attempts with various drivers (nVidia geForce go 6400) and others, I have decided to switch off all unnecessary services, which are being loaded during the system startup and guess what? It has started to work. I have found out later on, that the problem was caused by the service called 'VAIO Event Service', which is mainly responsible for special hotkeys and shortcuts (such as Fn+F2 which turns on/off the sound).
If you are facing the same problem, then turn this service off by going to the Start menu -> Control Panels -> Administrative Tools -> Services - the window containing the list of all services available in your system should popup. Find the 'VAIO Event Service', right-click on it, select Properties. In the popup, set 'Startup type' dropdown to 'Disabled'. This will stop the service and it will never start again during the system startup.
Of couse, disabled hotkeys and shortcuts drive me nuts, so I already had a look for some patch, have downloaded one, but it didn't help. We will see.
Another thing is something they call 'input lag'. I have to say, that during the work in the system, I havn't experienced any.
Summary: I am really satisfied - the picture is great - colors, sharpness, everything. DVD movies are great as well, without any blurs or something. I give just 4 stars, because of the VAIO problem, which has cost me quite a lot of time to solve...
Can Calibrate for Photo Proofing [Posted on 2007-06-26] Got this monitor because I am a photographer and color correct/process all my files. It was important that this monitor could be calibrated down to 100-110cd/m2 to be able to show shadow detail. I can certainly do this as I have had it as low as 101.2cd/m2. It can be easily calibrated with my EyeOne Display, Match software and the buttons located on the front panel. I am happy with the images displayed. If you want a good monitor for photo editing for under $500, this is the one.
Una de las mejores compras tecnológicas que realizé en mi vida. [Posted on 2008-01-09] PROS:
4. Múltiples entradas (DVI, VGA, S-Video, Composite, etc.). Capacidad de PIP.
5. Resolución WSXGA+ (1680x1050).
6. Widescreen.
CONS:
1. El menú no es amigable.
Excellent monitor - unless you own a Dell! [Posted on 2008-01-25] I purchased the Samsung 215TW 21" LCD monitor after a lot of research to determine what would be the best display for photo editing. This one was recommended in several reviews and was in my price range, so I ordered it. Little did I know that it isn't compatible with my Dell computer. The Samsung monitor has a DVI-D video connection, while Dell offers VGA connection. I still don't know what the difference between these connections is, but I do know now that I can't use the digital aspects of my new monitor. To use it, I would have to purchase a VGA to DVI-D converter, which costs $300-$400. Fortunately, the monitor works well with analogue connection, so I've been using that. The colors are great, even without digital connection, so I can't complain. I wish someone had told me about VGA and DVI-D before, though!
An excellent choice for photo editing [Posted on 2008-05-02] I purchased this monitor on ebay for $370 including shipping, and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm using it with my powerbook for photo editing, and I love how much extra space I have. The monitor is huge compared to what I'm used to, and the colors and brightness of the monitor are excellent. I love the swivel as well as the vertical tilt. I LOVE this monitor!
