Print jams and internal errors make this a bad buy [Posted on 2008-10-03]
I love the functionality - a scanner and a printer in one with a low profile.

However, incessant printer jams make the blood pressure rise with this printer.
1 out of 5 print runs (I usually print 5-10 pages at a time) works successfully, otherwise one needs stand over it to baby out pages that have been jammed (and when it does jam, it loses count of pages, destroys three and you have to piece a printing back together). Printing a longer piece - say 300 pages - is a complete nightmare and could possibly consume your day.

Also - the scan quality is really terrible - it puts lines through the scans.
My recommendation? Look elsewhere.
I had a Lexmark Optra 310 for 10 years and it was a beautiful workhorse of a printer and I hoped the same for this one. Alas, no.

Samsung Three In One Laser Printer SCX 4200 [Posted on 2008-10-13]
I am very satisfied with this three in one laser printer. It was very easy to install except for the missing USB cable which I had to purchase from the local electronics' store. However, I was reimbursed for most of the cost. This printer is quiet, efficient, and a pleasure to use in addition to the reasonable price.

Perfect for us [Posted on 2008-11-05]
We love this laser multi-function. We don't do heavy printing in our house and it has been perfect for us. We've had it for about 4 months.

Pros
1. Profile. This thing is a good size, but what puts it over the top is its lack of appendages. Nothing sticks out. It's all in that compact cube.
2. Toner. I'm so glad I'm not getting ripped off by the injet scam any more. Just bought a 3000+ page toner cartridge for less than $50.
3. Scanning software is a little bit clunky, but not too bad once you've used it a couple of times. I love to scan and email. Who needs a fax machine?
4. Great price!

ATTENTION MAC USERS [Posted on 2008-11-30]
The Samsung SCX-4200 is only partly compatible with Mac OS X_. It prints and copies fine but the scanner does not function as intended. The ScanThru icon will not install, so general scanning is done through Image Capture. Third party software is required to send to another application (photo management) or to perform OCR. Both of these functions are advertised. This additional software requirement for Mac users is not mentioned in the specifications. Scanner gives great detail & print quality is good (albeit not super sharp). But rarely jams and has been durable so far (knock). Maybe if other companies would balance quality & price this well, we wouldn't be in a recession...
