PS3 Upgrade [Posted on 2008-11-15]
I purchased this to upgrade my original 60GB PS3 to 500GB. Like many other review'er here, I noticed all the hardware that secured the original 60GB HD inside the PS3, appeared to be too small or soft for any tools I had around the house. So I went and purchased the proper size screwdriver set from a local store for less than 10 dollars. No Stripping, No Beating, No Bending, and most of all, No Problems. After I performed a quick Format of the new HD, and a somewhat lengthy System Restore, the System Information displayed 413GB of free space. As of this writing the new 500GB HD has only been installed for a few days, and there isn't any noticeable difference in speed or sound from the previous 60GB HD. If any problems should develope such as the reliablity of the new 500GB HD, I will update this review. Just in case, I'm storing my original 60GB HD in the static shielding bag, which came with the 500GB HD. Now bring on that High Definition content.

I bought this item before I even bought my PS3. After reading a few reviews and watching a couple of tutorials on the net, I decided that I would be using my PS3 as the key component to my new entertainment hub. I am happy to report how easy and painless the problem was from start to finish. You will, however want to invest in a set of precision Phillips screwdrivers as the screws a small and can very easily be stripped. Only took about 15 mins to swap; a few seconds to format and your at a whopping 413/465gb!!!
If your a music, movie, picture and demo hog like me; this is the drive for you.
Upgraded My PS3 HDD - Perfect [Posted on 2008-11-20]
I purchased this HDD for my PS3, it works perfectly. Obviously I have tons of space now, I re-downloaded everything I ever had to erase to make room for other stuff. I have 50 demos, 20 PSN games, 50GB of game and movie trailers, all qore episodes and I reinstalled all the game data for all my games and I still have a little under 300GB left. Instead of getting the 320GB HDD I waited to get this 500GB one and it's definitely worth it.
Oh yeah, shipping was very fast and I had no issues at all.
PS3 owners if you're looking to upgrade your HDD then get this one.
Too noisy for me [Posted on 2008-11-22]
This drive is definitely noisier than the stock 160GB Hitachi drive that comes with the MacBook Pro 17". It's the seeks that make the noise, not the idle, which is silent (thank goodness we are past the days of constant high pitched whines in hard drives!). Energy draw seems to be about the same: pulling the adaptor plug I show 2:42 battery life at 25% CPU usage and the display 3 notches dimmed. It is much quieter in the laptop than it is in the MacAlly storage enclosure I bought along with it. For comparison, the WD 320 GB 2.5" drive is completely silent. I've decided it's too noisy for me --- what really gets me is the periodic reads every 30 sec. that the OS does.

This drive is great for ps3. it works fits right,and the price is right.have it for 3 months works great no problems quite low noise.
