Customer Reviews:

Finally a brainstick I can attach to things [Posted on 2008-04-22]
I was looking for four attributes while searching for the right brainstick update:

1) Enough room to fit all of my work documents (which gets big when dealing with ArcGIS)

2) Physical size (smaller is better, but at a price)

3) An attachment mechanism that will not break (almost every other drive out there has a chinsey plastic tab that is then used to attach a keyring)

4) A decent bargain for GBs

5) High speed (especially useful at a higher drive capacity)

This drive encompasses all four of these with a few exceptions.

1= With 8GB the size is not a problem for me.

2= The physical size is 2.75 x 7/8 x 3/8 inch. A little bigger than the cruizer mini, but well worth the sturdy attachment ring.

3= The attachment ring is the main reason I got this brainstick. No more chinsey attachment that will eventually render your information lost or stolen. I attached mine to a carabinger and finally have a strong and sturdy brainstick that I can attach to anything without worry.

4= At around $60 it isn't the cheapest 8GB out there, but again, the attachment ring was worth it for me.

5= Hmm speed is OK. This is the only reason for a four star review. I wish the speed was just a hair faster. It doesnt seem to be as fast as the cruizer minis, but at the same time I have never used an 8GB cruizer mini. It seems as though larger capacity flash drives have slower speeds in the industry today, but I am disappointed with SanDisk for not labeling the drive speed on their products as many other manufacturers do.

Well worth it for my needs. Speed and money isn't everything.

SanDisk's 8GB Cruzer Slide - One of my better USB Drives [Posted on 2008-04-22]
This Cruzer Slide design has apparently been around for a while, but of course I tried every other one under the sun before even finding out about it. From the Kingston Data Traveler to the Sandisk Cruzer and Cruzer Micro to a bunch of other brands, I have had tons of these things. And this Slide design has a lot of positives.

This guy has 2, 4 and 8 GB sizes. 8GB is kind of the minimum size I would purchase at this point, since like I said I have a ton of smaller ones. This guy has a bigger case than I would like, especially with all the smaller drives out there now.

The attachment ring is really nice. It's big enough to easy hook it on to something. I really hate trying to attach my sticks to key rings with the really small holes that are on most drives. That's the main issue I have with the Kingston 8GB DataTraveler.

Like the Cruzer Micro you don't have to worry as much about losing the cover SanDisk 8 GB Cruzer Micro. There's still a chance of getting dust in it. Kingston also makes some retractable USB models as well, but in general I still prefer SanDisk.
Kingston DataTraveler 100 8 GB
Kingston DT100/8GB Data Traveler

Pros:
+ The attachment ring is great for easily hooking on to stuff - no fumbling with key rings
+ The slide-back top is also nicer than those on other thumb drives because it can't be lost
+ Nice capacity offers good storage
+ Durable body and NAND memory stands up to a lot of abuse
+ Compatible with old and new Mac and PC Operating Systems (XP, Vista, OS X)
+ USB 2.0 connection is backwards compatible for older computers
+ Easy to format and enable encryption to protect your data

Cons:
- Personally I'm not crazy about the U3 software on Sandisk USB drives
- Bigger case than other drives
- Not as attractive as the Sandisk Cruzer Micro
- Still somewhat slow speed in copying large files, limited by USB transfer rate
- Prices are still relatively high for this drive

Overall this is a great USB drive with good capacity. If you need something you can easy attach to key-chains and don't mind a slightly larger body, this is the one for you.

Enjoy!

Best design I've seen [Posted on 2008-05-08]
Overall a great product. The slide is a bit looser than I would like but otherwise the device is sturdy and doesn't seem like it will be falling off my key chain like all the other USB drives I've tried. The transfer speed isn't great, but it seems like all larger USB drives has this issue. I'd like to see this in a 16GB version, but 8 is ok for now.

Great Flash Drive [Posted on 2008-10-11]
Speed is great, and it looks great. I have a lot of experience with flash drives for my job. It also has the best software of any thumb drive that I have tried over 5 years. My complaint is that it came with no neck strap.
