Yes! It WORKS for 4GB SDHC AND Normal 4GB SD !!!! [Posted on 2008-05-06] I bought another brand sku 207655871 8GB SD / SDHC / MMC Memory Card Reader to USB 2.0 Adapter, Smoke by Eforcity - AVOID IT, it doesn't WORK with 4GB SDHC or 4GB SD. But the MicroMate worked with BOTH!!! THUMBS UP!
Works well, but beware of physical dimensions [Posted on 2008-05-07] I have had no problems at all with the operation of this item on one computer that I use. But because of the dimensions of the reader, specifically the width, it will not even fit on another computer because the computer case trim obstructs insertion of the device and it can't be plugged in.
The design would universally fit more computers if it were designed to be longer and narrower rather than so wide (left-to-right dimension in picture above).
As stated, the operation is flawless, just check your USB port/computer case design before buying this model.
Does exactly what you want. [Posted on 2008-05-21] I bought a SanDisk 4GB microSD card (came w/ SD adapter) and it wasn't recognized by my computer. 4 stars instead of 5 since this MicroMate required some installation and restart of my machine, but then it worked perfectly.
Excellent way to transfer files [Posted on 2008-06-03] I bought this memory card reader mainly to transfer files from an old computer to a new computer. The reader works perfectly, and makes it very easy to transfer files. With this memory card reader, a regular SD or SDHC memory card can transfer just about any file and does it pretty quickly.
Before I decided to get a reader for transfering the files, I was also thinking about it just for transfering pictures off of my camera. This works really well also, in fact it works much quicker than the usual process of hooking up the camera and transfering pictures that way. Besides being quicker, you can also send pictures anywhere you want to in your computer. Another benefit is that the reader is smaller and easier to carry around than a camera-to-computer cable.
The reader is thin and small, so it is easy to take with you. However, as another reviewer mentioned, the cap over the USB connector comes completely off and is easy to lose (Edit: After using the reader several times I finally noticed that you can snap the cap onto either end and it fits just fine over a memory card, so it is easy to keep track of the cap if you simply switch which end it is snapped onto.). Also, as another reviewer mentioned, the body of the reader is a bit too wide to fit into some ports. You may have to remove other cables to plug the reader into your computer.
Overall, I am very happy with this memory card reader. It is small and compact, and it saves a lot of time. It is well worth the relatively small expense to purchase one of these readers.
Must-have for the White Apple Macbook [Posted on 2008-06-18] I love my mac, but I don't like the fact that it comes without many standard accessories. A card reader is one of them. I never connect my camera to my mac, I prefer to pop out the SD card and then into the computer. But a mac has no card reader.. "Steve Jobs? Hello? are you listening? we want a card reader on our next generation of macs!"
OK, now, since I can't have a integrated card reader, what next? obviously get a reader, and this is where this white plastic reader is perfect.
Pros:
1. Is white
2. Matches my white mac
3. Strong, not a cheap build
4. Fast
Am happy with it, it does the job and looks good stuck onto my mac. Come on, everyone wants their gadgets to look good, why else do you think ipods and macs sell so much? They are great gadgets, but if they looked different, I'm sure their market would plummet!
Cons:
Well, none really, except that once fitted in, it blocks the other USB port, which is not San Disks fault, the USB ports are too close, which Apple can't help, I guess. Maybe a 3rd USB in the next generation macbook, on the right.. there is space there.
I use a USB extender hub and it works fine
