good monitor -- when you find one that works [Posted on 2008-01-20] I had to go through two other monitors before this one. One monitor developed a line down the center. Another monitor wouldn't work. Both problems happened with a technician at MicroCenter. However, when one works, they give a good display for the money. However, poor quality control should make Sceptre go back to the drawing board before releasing future monitors.
Do not buy this [Posted on 2008-06-13] I have two of these and have had to return them 3 times. I had to pay for shipping. The monitors break every few months. There are a lot of options for monitors and I would not recommend anything made by sceptre to anyone.
qualilty lacking [Posted on 2008-08-03] Only one dead pixel when shipped (in the middle of the screen) but now the whole monitor is dead. Off warranty, of course.
Is that one star or two?
Both my Sceptre monitors died in the same month [Posted on 2008-10-05] We had a 19" Sceptre and a 22" wide Sceptre monitor, both developed problems with their power boards within the same month, about 1.5 years old. Neither would even turn on anymore.
Upon contacting Sceptre, between the repair cost and the shipping (both ways) it would have cost more than a new monitor to fix it (not that it's a surprise). We even gave them the option of sending us the part so we could fix it, since my wife knows electronics, and it only knocked the price down $15.
We also have a tv by them, I'm seriously thinking about returning it while we can.
Nice display, short life expectency [Posted on 2008-10-10] I bought a Sceptre 22" display at Costco in 2006. I liked it so much (for the price) that I bought one for my mom and one for my wife. The built-in speakers were very low-fi but otherwise the display was crisp and responsive.
Until it wasn't. After about two years, the monitor began to black out on me. I could wake it up for 1 second at a time by cycling the power switch. In every case, after a bunch of fiddling around, I got the display to wake up again. Ever re-booting didn't help. When I finally turned to the Sceptre support site, a support specialist said "This issue might be the monitor's power inverter being defective." I was directed to print an RMA and return the unit with a check for $130.
In my humble opinion, the consumer should not have to pay such a large amount to fix a defective product. I will not buy additional Sceptre products and I'm worried about the life expectancy of the two other monitors I bought. (At least Costco is willing to stand behind products they sell!)
As is always the case, you must decide if my experience is likely to recur with a monitor you buy today. Perhaps they use better components. Perhaps not!
