Transfer rate is very fast. It does include a program to make the hard drive your personal documents folder. The drive, however requires two USB ports available.

The Seagate FreeAgent Go 160GB is a quite nice external drive. To concur with other reviewers, it worked in every notebook PC I plugged it into using only the thicker power/data USB cable. The pulsating glow is also soothing during long backups.
Speaking of backups, I deleted all the software that came on the drive and downloaded the free Seagate DiscWizard (it is definitely free but will run ONLY if you have at least one Seagate or Maxtor drive attached to your PC). DiscWizard is a subset of Acronis True Image that supports full hard-drive backups and online or stand-alone restores. You can also "explore" a backup file to see a "virtual" image of the hard drive at the time of the backup and, if desired, copy selected folders or files back to your system. What really makes this drive worth buying is the fact that it ships with Ceedo preinstalled.
Ceedo is a virtualized application environment that allows you to install standard windows-based applications and connect the drive to any Windows PC, fire up Ceedo, and use your installed applications as if you were sitting in front of you own PC at home or at work.
Ceedo supports applications such as Microsoft Office, Paintshop Pro, Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver CS3, Ulead PhotoImpact, NetObjects Fusion, and more, all without having to modify them in any way, and then run Ceedo and your apps in limited accounts. Ceedo also have a programs directory from which you can install a ton of useful applications, most of which are free.
Without Ceedo, this is just another USB drive. With Ceedo, it is like having your computer in your pocket. I would advise anyone who has mobility in mind to buy this drive.
Good USB Portable Ext. Hard Drive [Posted on 2008-07-14]
Pretty good drive. Having trouble using it in Plug and Play mode in Windows Vista(upgraded os). But if I boot with the drive connected it's working fine. On my XP laptops it works even if i plug it in while the machine is on. It comes with a lot data synchronizing software but I'm not using any of that. Speed seems to pretty good as well.

I uninstalled the software that came with the drive, re-formatted it to make sure whatever crap Seagate put on there was truly gone, and now just use it with SyncToy to backup my huge iTunes library to. It works great, I love the power via USB that it has. Great buy, great price. No issues.
