It Could Have Been So Much More... [Posted on 2007-06-19] While this program is okay, next time, I will buy differently. It could have been so much more, but is severely hamstrung. When you open it up your only option is to search your ENTIRE drive for ALL deleted files. And, depending on the size of your drive and how much content you have on it, you are going to be there awhile. This, while I only wanted to search for a single picture whose title I knew. Also, a feature to allow you to search for SPECIFIC file types would have been nice too. I don't use this program often because I know when I open it up, to pack a lunch.
Awfully written software - Save your time and money [Posted on 2007-07-18] This product deserves zero stars.
I bought this software to recover some deleted files. It managed to find some of them but the recovery process is hopeless. The software constantly terminates itself OR it freezes and requires termination through Windows Task Manager.
Save your time and money and go with a different product....I cant see how it could be worse.
Waste of money [Posted on 2008-02-03] I bought this software to recover files from the hard-drive of a laptop that had stopped working. The software showed some .cab files on the hard-drive but nothing else. It was completely useless and a waste of money.
Later I downloaded Stellar Phoenix data recovery software and had all the files recovered in less than 15 minutes. It was more expensive ($100), but atleast it worked.
Do not waste your money on this product.
Save your money! [Posted on 2008-02-08] I bought this program -- supposedly recommended by both "PC World" and "PC Magazine" -- hoping to recover files from a partition I had quickformatted by mistake, and the only thing I found out was that this program is a complete waste of time and money.
The box claims that it works with Windows Vista, but it would not even run on my own computer (Vista Ultimate 64-bit). I had to install it on a Windows XP partition so I could find out how useless this software is.
It claims that it can recover data from formatted hard drives, which it kind of did, but the results were so bad as to be worthless. First of all, it will only seek only popular file formats like .JPG, .DOC and so on. So if you have some esoteric file you need to rescue, this program may not even bother with it. Second, it will dump everything into one directory, so any file/folder system you may have is good as gone. And to add insult to injury, it will rename every file to the extension plus a sequence of numbers -- JPG00001.jpg, JPG00002.jpg, and so on. Good luck trying to sort your files if you have thousands of them.
About the only thing this program will do well is rescue files you may have deleted by mistake and then emptied the Recycle Bin. But there are programs online that will do this, and for free, it makes no sense to spend money on this program.
I eventually recovered the data that I wanted, but had to rely on a friend and another program to to the job.
So don't even bother with this piece of junk. It's not worth the CD that it comes in. I sure wish I could get my $40 back.
IOLO DISHONEST [Posted on 2008-06-04] I used search and recover for two years and was very happy with the product on XP.
I bought SR4 when I purchased my Windows Vista. SR2 was not comaptable, with Vista so I was very pleased when I discovered SR4 with the manufacturer's sticker on it that stated "Vista Compatable".
The only reason I use SR is for file terminator. I installed SR4 and recovered the files and attempted termination but the feature did not work. Then I discovered on their service WEB that this feature is not compatable with Vista.
I emailed customer support and told them the only reason I purchased the product was because of their claim that SR4 was compatable with Vista and that I was a loyal customer with SR2 and requested a refund or credit.
In response I recieved an ambiguous response referring me to their refund policy.
After several exchanges it was useless. One of their lousy defenses for not taking care of me after stealing my money under false pretenses was that SR4 was compatable with XP.
The other claim they consistently made was that SR4 was compatable with Vista. That is an outright lie.
