Customer Reviews:

Great projector for the price....until bulb goes. [Posted on 2007-01-10]
I am a teacher and purchased one of these for use in school. I like it so much, I bought another for home. A week after the second one arrived the bulb in the first blew. Three weeks later the bulb in the second unit went. I called Sharp and explained and shipped both in. They replaced the bulb in the first unit under the warranty, but the second they wouldn't replace since it was over 90 days. After much "discussion", they gave me the "deal" of a half price bulb ($150). I took it and now will hold my breath to see how long the new bulbs last. I treat these machines like babies, never bumping them, always use proper shutdown techniques, and regularly clean dust off fan grilles, but still lost both bulbs. The specs from Sharp say the bulb will last 2000-3000 hours. Not even close! Beware of this machine.

Great Value! Great way to get into projectors without breaking the bank! [Posted on 2007-04-11]
I read the other reports unhappy about Bulb life. We've had this unit for about 20 months and have been very happy with it. We've definitely gotten 2000 hours of use with it before blowing a bulb. It certainly doesn't go to 3000 hours (at least not for us), but for the price of this unit, even with a bulb replacement, it's a great deal. Technology keeps improving so using this for a couple years while prices continue to drop and quality and features keep getting better is a nice and affordable option for folks with an open wall to project on.

If you compare this box on any white or grey wall in your house with an HD signal to a 1000 dollar price range flat screen of the largest size you can get, you'll definitely choose this. That's the same price comparison as buying this plus a replacement bulb. There's likely going to be something even cooler in a couple years and perhaps when it's time to replace the bulb a second time, you'll choose a new unit with new features at that time. Until then, for the money, you'll love this thing. We're totally spoiled watching everything at 7 foot high on our living room wall. HD sports especially look great. Watching regular non HD TV isn't as amazing, thought the size is still great. Everyone who has visited, including those with really nice flat screens have raved about it. We've had a better unit (way more expensive, but better stats) which blew up after about 60 days. That DID have a better picture but since it blew so quickly, we traded for this unit. If budget is an issue for you, this is a great way to get a projector. Flat screens are nice too, but tiny in comparison and the features are ever changing and the prices are ever dropping. Again, this is a good option while you wait a couple years for better and newer options. I am sorry to hear about those who've had bad bulb life. It's also unfortunate to hear Sharp wasn't more understanding. But the unit itself is well done and well priced.

And for those considering a screen, if you have a blank wall, try that first. You might find you like the extra size you get just by going directly to the wall versus the limitions of a screen. We didn't do anything special to our light grey walls and it looks fantastic.

Good picture short life. [Posted on 2007-10-28]
I bought this product at Sam's Club for around $800.00. The picture is good. It was easy to set up. I projected this on a wall with good results. I have had this for about 1 and 1/2 years. This is located in a vacation condo and not used much. The bulb blew with 200 hours of use out of the promised 2000. I was disappointed. The new bulb cost about $300.

poor bulb [Posted on 2008-04-15]
Our church also had gotten this unit, only using it on Sundays. Had it for under one year and the bulb went. Said it had 72% left on it, hardly no where close to 2000-3000 hrs. life. Not happy with bulb.

what a piece of s### [Posted on 2008-06-01]
For the love of God do not buy this garbage. I just ordered its second bulb that exploded at 24% of its so-called life the first bulb went at roughly 50%. I pampered the second bulb and kept it dust free and vacuumed.I always set it at economy setting instead of the regular setting which was supposed to prolong its life. What a joke and as for the dregs at Sharp they are rude, unhelpful and put you on permanent ignore. THEY DO NOT CARE AND THEY KNOW THE ITEM IS A P.O.S............all that being said it is too bad because the projector itself is really great when it works but the bulb is the single most important item and is junk.
