Don't listen to the negative reviews [Posted on 2006-05-24] Alright, after reading the reviews here, I was pretty skeptical. But I picked one up, and it worked great! A DVD I was trying to copy with DVD Shrink that wouldn't even pass the superficial analysis went through a deep analysis during encoding just fine after I repaired the disk. I must admit, the device isn't the best quality, but it certainly works wonders. In response to some other reviews:
-yes, the disk does bend. This is BY DESIGN. The disk must bend to obtain more than a single point of contact on the DVD. This is a FEATURE
-The disk does rotate, albeit very slowly. This is also by design due to the location that the buffing wheel contacts the disk. It imparts a very small force in a tangential direction, the majority of the force is radial which does not spin the disk. Just be patient.
-The buffing disk does require a fair deal of force to install, but once it is in correctly it stays in just fine.
People should honestly understand the product before writing a review on it. All in all, I'm very pleased with this product. Its a small price to pay for repairing all your disks.
Negative reviews? [Posted on 2006-09-16] Let me explain something to the plants that the makers of this product paid to write online reviews.
This product doesn't work, period. When I started to attempt to repair a disc, the wheel that buffs the disc immediately started to crumble since it's made of extremely flimsy rubber.
Not only that, but after using the product as much as I could, the disc went from somewhat readable to not readable at all.
You want people to waste their money on products that do the exact opposite of what they're supposed to do? You want to lie about your experiences using a product that can't possibly repair a disc?
You know what? Buy this product, and see for yourself. I'm sure that when alot of people come around explaining how this thing ruined their favorite cd's and dvd's, digital innovations will have to pay for the inconveneince.
Ignore the negative feedback, this works great! [Posted on 2006-10-18] I don't know why people are leaving negative feed back about this, when it works great! It's very easy to use and fixing disks only takes about 2 minutes. Also, this product as well as every other skip doctor product is only for MINOR scratches, not thick gouges and other nasty scrarches, it won't take out those. But for those pesky little or normal scratches, this gets rid of them.
Disc Doctor [Posted on 2008-02-26] Skip Doctor Advanced Optical Repair System
I bought this product because my Sony portable DVD reader was freezing scenes after about 30 minutes of operation-even when reading new DVDs. I thought my discs were at fault but now I feel the reader has a problem with its lens. My wife has a similar reader and has no problems. The Sony is just over one year old (cost $190) and is out of warranty. I used the repair system on the DVDs but I still had the problem. I did repair a badly scratched music disc and it worked well. Hardly a test of this gadjet-if anyone knows how I can get my Sony reader repaired let me know.
Invoice and packaging long since trashed.
This Item Is Pure Garbage! [Posted on 2008-04-27] This DVD Doctor is complete garbage. I had bought it awhile back (unfortunately so long ago, I had to contact the manufacturer to get my money back) thinking it would be good to have in case I have a problem with a DVD or CD. Anyway, I had a DVD that jammed and skipped. After carefully cleaning the DVD, the problem persisted. I whipped out my DVD Doctor, assembled it, and tried to use it. The wheel buckled and would not turn correctly. I called the manufacturer (remember it was purchased long ago and couldn't be returned). Instead of allowing me to return it, they sent me two new replacement wheels. Okay. All well and good. I got the replacement wheels and they, happily, did not buckle. I followed the directions to the letter. Now, instead of the DVD jamming and skipping at certain places . . . IT DOES NOT PLAY AT ALL!!!!!!!!! This product is pure junk and I would not only never recommend it to anyone, I would steer clear of any and all Digital Innovation products. I now have a completely ruined DVD (which I also cannot return since it was bought more than ninety days ago) and this piece of junk - which is going right into the trash where it belongs. Do yourself a favor - DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT OR ANYTHING MADE BY DIGITAL INNOVATIONS!!!!! As you can see by the reviews, it's a 50/50 crapshoot on whether it will work or not or even further destroy your CD/DVD!
