All around great and the best priced version of this type of device I have found [Posted on 2008-03-13] This system has been a god send considering I have 4 devices in my entertainment center that require an internet connection. My AppleTV, Xbox 360, DishTV Box, and Slinkbox. Granted 2 of these have wireless options, but I have found the sling link to be a much more reliable connection and speed throughput.
The speeds are what I expected, probably around the 3mbps mark, but I have not thrown anything larger at it. I assume for most people out there that have the normal G router and 3mbps internet connection, these speeds will suffice for the type of devices it is connected to. If you have an N router with N spec type devices like the new Apple TV, then I would stick to the wireless option on that IF you have an internet connection greater than 3mbps.
It streams my videos from my computer just fine, it downloads all the content from the internet I need just as fast as my computer. It has been a bit more steady with my wireless adapters and for those who have a larger house with weaker signal, or for those who game, the Slinglink is a much better option for stability.
But overall it has been a great device and works as described. It is very easy to set up, and .. just works.
Delivers what is promised [Posted on 2008-03-16] My router must be upstairs in a particular room, because my work computer must be a wired connection, but all of my other devices are downstairs. I fought MANY battles with my wireless network devices, which worked fine sometimes, and not others. Due to the location of everything, the signal was never consistent, and could never keep a consistent IP address on any device -- was very frustrating, to say the least.
I saw only a handful of reviews on this product, but they were mostly all good. Still, it was with much skepticism, AND desperation, that I purchased this.
Well, I am happy to report that I am no longer a skeptic!!! It works absolutely perfectly so far, and I am thrilled. If you can plug a cord into a wall socket, you can use this. I really expected to see at least a minor degradation of speed, but I was mostly concerned about consistency rather than speed. But truthfully, if there is, it is so minor that I have not even noticed it, as compared to the wireless connection.
I don't even have a Slingbox of any type. But, I already have 3 devices connected, and all are working flawlessly. 1) Sony LocationFree, 2) Sony PS3, and 3) Desktop computer (for multimedia on tv).
Thanks to this device, my blood pressure is now down, and I don't feel like ditching all technology to go live in a cardboard box by the roadside!
I have no complaints about this product [Posted on 2008-03-21] The product was extremely easy to configure. Just plug both units in, connect the ethernet cables and your ready to go. It works great in place of a wireless extender. I have a Slingbox, Tivo and Linksys Wireless Access Point plugged into it and they are all work fine with it.
I noticed someone mentioned that they had problems when using the 2 two units on two different circuits. I definitely have them on two different circuits and I never experienced any issues.
Easy as pie [Posted on 2008-03-28] Set up was so easy, 5 minutes at most and I was able to hook up my Dish receiver to the internet to download movies, and it works flawlessly.
Works as advertised. [Posted on 2008-07-20] Truly a "plug and play" device. I have an older sling box the was close to my router. After moving it to another room this device solved my wireing problems. The only issue is you have to plug the network end into the router directly. Going through a hub first won't work. Other than that, no problems what so ever..
