Very poor packageing [Posted on 2008-09-08]
The Sony discs are good as usual, but all the spindles were broken because the packageing was very shoddy; large box with a few air pillow things thrown in..........didn't work.

I have always used Sony DVD-R discs. I have found them to be the most reliable over the past few years. I haven't had to throw out a disc yet because it wouldn't burn.

They weren't secured in the box very well by amazon and they busted open during shipping. The shrink wrap was barely holding it together when they arrived, but thankfully none of the discs were damaged.

Do not buy these! [Posted on 2008-10-08]
Someone was asleep at the wheel in Sony's quality control area for these disks. After using about 20 of them, I noticed that the disks were very noisy when playing. I then took a close look at the stack of the disks on the spindle. The edges of the disks were very blotchy. Inspecting them a little closer, I found that on some of them, I could actually peel off a bit of the plastic covering along the edge of the disk. I checked other disks and was seeing the same results. There was even one disk that had the plastic covering peeling off the writable side of the disk! This is horrible quality control.

I will never buy Sony DVDs again. I have switched to Taiyo. Yes, they cost a little more sometimes, but they are a quality product. I believe Taiyo makes the Sony disks, but they make them at Sony's specifications, which appear to be pretty low.

A friend of mine also purchased this spindle from another vendor. He had the same problems.

Sony has a track record of poor customer service. Their DRM-laden music and movies. The rootkit problems. They are the creators of Securom (I highly invasive DRM scheme for PC games that is known to cause issues with people's systems). The abysmal changes to Star Wars Galaxies (which caused them to lose a LOT of subscribers). I would like to contact Sony about this, but they have no email contact. You can only call them, which means talking to someone in India who is only going to follow their flowchart of responses and not actually help you.

Sorry Sony, I stopped supporting most of your other products a long time ago. Now, I'm completely done with you.

Again, don't buy these disks, you could get a bad batch. It's not worth risking having pieces of plastic flying off the disk at high speed and possibly causing damage to your equipment.
