Customer Reviews:

Works readily with Phonak hearing aids & iPhone 3G [Posted on 2008-09-18]
I've have had hearing aid for almost 20 years. Phonak has a digital, wireless hearing aid that can play music and phone conversations to the hearing aids through a small device that you wear around your neck called an iCom (not from Apple). The Sony wirless device slips into the bottom of the Apple iPhone 3G and easily pairs with the iCom. You just use: Settings -> General -> Bluetooth, and turn on Bluetooth, and then the device pairs. Like other previously written reviews, you have have to get by the message from Apple that says that the attached device (Sony wireless transmitter) wasn't designed to be used with the iPhone 3G. The good news is that it works.

Phonak isn't much help with questions. They are aware that the iPhone doesn't support music without the Sony wireless device, but they don't seem aware that the thing does work.

When listening to music and you get a phone call, the call rings in your hearing aids. You just press a large button on the front of the iCom device, and you receive the call. The music stops during the call. When you are finished with the phone call, you end the call by pressing the same button again and the music starts up once more.

The Phonak hearing aids and iCom also work well with my iPod nano and the Sony wireless device. Using just my iPhone 3G, I use about 20% of it's battery capacity each day. Use of the iCom and the iPhone 3G with several hours of music seems to double the battery usage. There is still a lot of life left in the iPhone 3G at the end of the day!

Overall I am delighted with the Phonak hearing aids. Using the iCom, Sony wireless device, and the Apple iPhone 3G, I can listen to music, talk readily on the phone, and drive with my hands on the wheel. It's just wonderful for someone who has a very hard time hearing anything!

neat little bugger... [Posted on 2008-09-22]
this has got to be one of the best accessories to have for an ipod. but trust me make sure you are careful with it cuz i must have lost this little bugger over a hundred times. heck i washed it in a washer once! oh and if that happens just let it dry for couple days for it to work it again. overall i would suggest this little bugger to anyone who likes to listen to music in the car or thru headphones via bluetooth. i know i love it and it was a great buy!

Worked as expected [Posted on 2008-09-22]
Well i looked all over the internet for this item and found it here of course on amazon. It works like a charm couldn't really be more pleased. it was easy to set up and even better to use. if you want you use your bluetooth headphones with your ipod this is the way to go.

Mostly Perfect [Posted on 2008-09-23]
This connected with relative ease to my Cardo S-2 wireless headphones. In weeks of use, it's never fallen out of my Touch and transmission has been nearly seamless. (It gave out near a passing light rail, but then came back)

My only qualm is that when inserted into the device, it causes my iSkin to rise up around it, rather than stay tight on the Touch. A minor problem indeed.

Also, it does eat up the device's charge, so it's necessary to remove it after a while and charge up. But, again, a minor nuisance.

Tiny, functional, sounds great with my Sony Bluetooth Receiver [Posted on 2008-10-03]
The Good

- Tiny
- Draws power from the iPod; does not require its own battery
- Music remote control commands (previous track, next track, play, pause, fast forward, rewind) work flawlessly with my Apple iPod classic 160 GB and my Sony DRC-BT15 Bluetooth Receiver
- Sound is crystal-clear (requires a receiver that supports A2DP music transmission)

The Bad

- Cannot be used while the iPod is under external power, for example during charging (no pass-through dock connector)
- Does not fit inside any known iPod case (protection from being snapped off would be useful)

The Bottom Line

I walk a lot, and like to listen to music while walking. I wanted a wireless remote control/headphone solution so that I could leave my iPod in my backpack, carry a small remote control in my hand, and not have my headphones be tethered to my backpack.

I considered alternatives from Panasonic, JVC and MacSense, some of which were more expensive (considering the total price of the transmitter and the receiver), and some of which were a little less expensive. Sony's solution had the best specifications. I am very pleased with it.
