Great DVD ROM Drive [Posted on 2008-04-03]
So far, the Sony combo CRX320AD CD-RW & DVD ROM appears to be an excellent drive. I installed it on an aging Sony PCV-RX560 PC, and it helped bring new life back into it. The choice of two different face plate colors helped blend the drive into the color scheme of the PC (black blended in fine), and while the drive design was somewhat different than the original drive, it still fit satisfactorily into the drive bay for the eject button to work flawlessly. Electronically, the drive seemed to perform beautifully as soon as it was installed. There were no driver problems; Windows XP recognized the drive immediately. Now the entire PC runs better. I also purchased the CRX230AE CD-RW drive, and it runs equally well. Why not have two great running drives? I've had excellent luck with Sony PC products.

If you dont want a DVD burner, this is the drive to get. Good software, easy install and changing enclosed black faceplate a snap. writes and reads CDs and reads DVDs. Amazon has best price on the web (retail version)
Decent, not best error-tolerance [Posted on 2008-05-20]
I've had a DVD drive for 8 years, and it has been having difficulty reading some minor-scratched DVDs, which include some newly purchased ones. So that bothered me a lot. This SONY drive takes care "some" of that problem for me. I am able to play almost all of those minor-scratched DVDs now, excepting only a couple. The actual DVD players that cannot be hooked to a computer can play those scratched DVDs OK, probably because those have a lot higher error tolerance...
Reading speed was great, setup was simply plug-and-play. No software needed unless you want to burn CDs.

I bought this and obviously from my title it came pretty fast and it works great, easy installation did it on my own so you probably can too.
Good replacement for the broken Samsung that came with my Dell [Posted on 2008-07-03]
The Samsung that came with my Dell started giving me trouble about a year after I bought the PC. After less than 3 years it stopped working entirely. This Sony installed easily and so far works fine (I've only had it for a month). My only gripe is that the write up said it came with both a black face and a beige face, but mine only has a beige face (and my Dell is black). This cosmetic issue doesn't really bother me, but I can't give it 5 stars for this.
