so happy! [Posted on 2008-06-03] It worked "out of the box". I bought it for a Fujitsu Lifebook mini that had no CD drive. Plugged the drive into the USB port, XP's hardware wizard id'd it, and that was enough. Didn't bother with the fancy software.
Sony Portable CD/DVD [Posted on 2008-07-01] The Sony DRXS70U is an excellent portable CD/DVD drive. It is slim and compact and, more importantly, speeds up copying discs considerably. Copying from one drive to a second is much faster than copying from a disc to the hard drive then back to a new disc. It is also a must-have accessory for mini-notebooks, e.g. ASUA Eee PC900, which don't have built-in optical drives. I recommend it.
Pretty good [Posted on 2008-07-31] Was able to plug 'n play without software. Very necessary for the Eee PC 901. Read the disc quickly. Haven't tried to burn anything yet. Very light and portable. Bought a case I thought was suggested for it, but totally didn't fit so I had to return the case. Will probably buy a new one.
The perfect add on. [Posted on 2008-08-08] For whatever reason, my new computer with a built in cd/dvd drive would not read a certain game's disks. I had no way to install it. I really wanted to try the game so I figured i'd give this a shot. It worked beautifuly. Plugged it in, no drivers needed to be installed or anything. Put the disk in, bingo, read them perfectly. Smooth, quiet operation. Happy with this purchase!
Only Difference from DRXS70U/R ... drumroll please: the Nero SW version [Posted on 2008-08-12] Full disclosure: I don't own this, but soon shall.
I saw the /R version [DRXS70U/R] (selling here at Amazon for far more than this model) at my local electronics discounter -- and from comparing what the box for that model says, the only difference from this version is that the /R version has the Nero v8 essentials software. As this is a MS-Windows-only device, and any OS version beginning with XP supports burning CDs (DVDs?) directly, you can decide if that's worth the extra bucks.
Hope this helped a bit. Thanks for reading.
