Good item for Sony camera [Posted on 2006-07-10] As usual I am pleased with sony purchases. I would recommend this item to R1 owners.
Good case, but... [Posted on 2006-07-15] Excellent quality and fit. I like the tripod socket screw that securely holds the case to the camera. Reminds me of the design of the old 35mm SLR cases. What I don't care for is the two wing flaps under the lense that makes putting the case over the camera a bit cumbersome. Often, I would accidently turn the camera on or worse yet, switch the autofocus setting to manual. It seems like that was the only way the designers could get the case over such a long lense. Otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.
Does the job - not great, though! [Posted on 2006-08-30] This bag does what it was intended to do: protect the camera. However, in the field it is a bit cumbersome. To shoot properly, one should remove completely the main cover, as it is large and if left swinging, makes it harder to handle the camera. I found that when I was shooting pictures often I just removed entirely the main cover leaving only the part that screws to the bottom of the camera. That piece actually improves, in my opinion, the grip and feel of the camera.
With time, removing the cover becomes second nature. I do not find it an inconvenience the fact that the memory ports are covered. I usually load high capacity memory stick and compact flash and can take hundreds of pictures before I need to replace them.
Overall, I recommend this bag. If you need to carry accessories, all the time, this bag is not for you.
Disappointed [Posted on 2006-10-19] It is a pain in the neck to use! Many times it would turn my camera's switch ON when placing the camera back into the carrying case. Takes a lot of time and patience to take the camera out and to put it back into the leather carrying case. The strap is uncomfortable on the neck, too narrow. I wound up buying a regular soft sided Tamrac camera case that also provides room for the filter lenses, extra memory and lens cleaning stuff. Junked the Leather Carrying case.
Carrying Case for the Cybershot DSC-R1 [Posted on 2007-01-13] Item is well made and will protect your camera. The only draw back is that it is big and bulky, and when you use the camera, you have to unsnap the cover. There's no place it but to hold on to it or leave that part at home. Other than that, great protection for that investment.
