One Very Cool PC... [Posted on 2005-04-20] All it took was one glance at the W700G and I knew I wanted one. I had never seen anything like it before or since. While shopping for a general purpose PC and monitor, expecting to buy the same old generic looking tower, I came across the W700G and that was it. I planted myself in front of it and waited for a salesperson to show up and then bought one. It is, without a doubt, the coolest looking computer I've ever seen.
Now, looks aren't everything and in the 3 months I've been using my Vaio W700G I haven't had a single complaint. Granted I upgraded the RAM to 1GB right off so I can't comment about stock speed but so far this thing has handled every task I've thrown at it with ease and ... did I mention it's just about the coolest looking PC available?
This is NOT a gamers PC, there are limited upgrade paths and the video capability is not one of them. I'm a serious gamer but with only SiS shared video I'm not playing anything on this one. Multimedia, web browsing, email, Office apps, and everything else though are nicely available and I've also got to add here that for the first time ever I've actually bought a computer in the W700G that comes with some functional software. Sony has included useful stuff with this one, including a full TV PVR w/remote that works better than most of the other similar solutions on the market.
I could go on for a long time here, the W700G is so loaded with features and yet so simple and easy to use that it almost redefines what an XP based PC can be. I've tried other VAIO desktops and laptops and though I've always liked most of the Sony products out there, this one is a truly revolutionary idea - more along the lines of iMac than the typical desktop PC. Why more PC makers aren't heading in this direction is beyond me, the W700G is a true desktop/laptop hybrid in the sense that there is literally one cord (power) leaving my computer, well, actually two because I have cable TV plugged into it. If all PC's were this simple, and at the same time this powerful, the world would be a better place.

Awsome computer [Posted on 2005-05-12] You can do anything with this computer, what I like best of this computer is the fact that you can use this as a tv! ITs a super fast computer. I would recommend this computer to everyone!
BEST COMPUTER OUT THERE [Posted on 2005-11-06] THIS COMPUTER ROCKS IT HAS TV IS ALL ONE PICE BRINGS A WIRELESS ROUTER CARD FOR A LAPTOP (WIRELESS INTERNET). IT COMES WITH SONIC STAGE. THE ONLY WIRES IT COMES WITH ARE THE MAIN POWER ONE AND THE MOUSE. THEN HOWEVER YOU HAVE TO ADD THE PRINTER CABLE THE HIGH SPEED INTERNET CABLE. IT ALSO BRINGS THIS WIRE THAT WORKS AS AN ANTENA FOR THE TV. THE SPEAKERS ARE LOUD CONSIDERIN THEIR SIZE. THE KEYBOARD IS FLAT. I PERSONALLY TAKE MY COMPUTER FROM PLACE TO PLACE BECAUSE IT IS SO VERSITILE. THE KEYBOARD ALSO CAN BE POPPED IN HAFE TO WATCH TV. THE IMAGE FOR TV MOVIE AND JUST USING THE COMPUTER IS GREAT. IN CONCLUSION THIS IS THE BEST COMPUTER OUT THERE AND YES I OWN ONE!
It's a nice computer but I will never buy a Sony computer again [Posted on 2008-02-22] This computer is really nice. The TV/Stereo/computer all in one was one that I really liked when I was going off to college, plus there's not a big bulky computer to move around, it's just attached to the back of the monitor. It's really easy to hook up because there's not a lot of wires and it'll have people saying "what kind of computer is THAT?" However, my problems with the quality of the hardware and Sony in general have caused me to wish I had just gone with something else.
My first problem was that after the computer was about a year and a half old, the cooling fan died on it. When we took it to the computer repair place in town, we were told that they were not allowed to work on the computer because it was a Sony, and we had to take it to an "approved" computer repair shop that was authorized to work with Sony computers, or it would void the warranty. So we had to drive 30 miles out of town to the closest place that could take it, and it was a pain.
Now my poor 3 year old computer is having more hardware problems. It started restarting itself randomly a few months ago, so I decided to try and do a hard drive restore. Well my first problem was that the computer doesn't come with recovery disks, you have to burn some from the internet or something, which was really strange. So I did that and when I restored my computer there was an error message. I had to go on another computer and figure out what the heck was going on. Anyway I solved that but it's still doing it, so it has to be some kind of hardware problem. I'm going to take it, see it I can get it fixed for a reasonable price, and if not it's done. It is not worth it anymore.
