Stay away from this laptop! [Posted on 2007-06-17] Stay away from this laptop! It is sold as an VGN-FE855 E/H model while the number listed at the bottom of the laptop is completely different. The keyboard feels and sounds very cheap. I am also dissatisfied with the poor quality cover latch. It is manually operated and very loose, which causes it to pop up when the cover is open. The battery life is mediocre, 2.5 hrs max. The customer service simply awful - unable to find the laptop model in their system. When finally located, I was told that this model is old and that they have few spare parts, in case I ever needed any... Also, the customer service representative (talk to a few of them!) was unable to tell me if this laptop was compatible with the EU power source (The AC adapter does not list the usual "EC" sign).
I returned mine and will surely never again buy another Sony VAIO.
Not the top of the line but bettert han a Compaq [Posted on 2007-12-04] All the other notebooks I've owned were HPs and Compaqs. This beats them easily and I already knew I was buying a "cheap" notebook. I have the next version the 865E so there are some differences. I would not recomend this computer for intensive users, spend the cash for something that will make you happy. However, for my classroom this preforms everything I need, from keeping grades to switching over to powerpoints, to viewing videos. Yes the latch is badly designed, and the battery lock is even worse. The battery-life depends on how you use it. As for warrenty, I went for an after-market kind so that I wouldn't have to deal with an out-sourced India-tele-fool. So the final thought is I'm glad i bought this machine as it does what I need it to do.
I love this laptop [Posted on 2008-03-04] This is my second VAIO laptop and I must say I was very pleased with it. The screen is great for watching movies and also for multi-media editing and viewing. It also has an internal wireless internet card which is very powerful, as well as an internal web camera, which is a lot of fun to play with as well. Overall this laptop was worth the money, it handles all of my demanding tasks to the T and is very entertaining and elegantly styled. I would recommend this!
Best price to performance ratio [Posted on 2008-04-04] This is my third vaio and as usual I am very pleased with its performance. This laptop is very reliable and I just adore it.
Thank you Sony !!
