Fast and small but Sony is retarded. [Posted on 2006-07-15] I bougt a Sony VAIO SZ220. This computer is blazing fast, and runs wonderful. On the other hand, the keyboard is definately done wrong. The keys seem a bit flemsy and the space bar has to be pressed in the middle (I popped off the space bar and put a slice of a pencil eraser on the button.. fixed the problem!). I have one pixel so far that has gone out and I've had it for a month. the screen is pretty flemsy also, and doesn't have a locking mechanism. The loose battery is extremely annoying but no big problem.. I also learned that the metal part your hands rest on while typing seems to have some sort of current running through it because my guitar makes funny sounds when I touch them at the same time. The little docking spot on the bottom won't stay closed..The laptop emits alot of heat..
But I really love it. I do. My friend bought an FJ series and has no problems from it that I have from this one. They don't have the same processing power but they are still fast!!
Oh by the way.. my HD was advertised at 100g and it is actually 105.
careful with electric shock [Posted on 2006-09-25] This is a nice machine except for the fact that when it is plugged it gives an electric shock to the user. Please search your favorite engine with "sony vaio sz electrick shock" and you will see that this is a common event. In the next month or so I will try to see if this machine can be returned to Sony and/or file a complaint with my state's attorney general. This is completely unnaceptable.
so far, so good. [Posted on 2007-01-10] I've owned the Vaio since late October and use it mainly for wordprocessing and websurfing for information. I've found the slightly non-conventional keyboard pleasant. The only drawbacks are that I still have only about a 50% success rate logging in with the fingerprint reader and more seriously that the mousepad is extremely sensitive to the least accidental touch, flipping the cursor to unexpected spots, so I'm still in training to avoid that. Otherwise, it's true I haven't tried to push it to any limits, but it's done what might be expected of it. Nice clear well lit screen.

great laptop [Posted on 2007-05-13] pros
the size and weight a perfact, screen is fantastic. 13" really fits my needs well.
i added antother meg of ram so it runs quite fast. processor and the FSB are a awesome match.
cons
the material used for the cover plate is not as sleek as i would prefer. i traded up from my fs series and i liked that frame outside better. lastly i thought this laptop had bluetooth on the motherboard, the product description led me to believe this was so. after i called the seller he said to contact Sony this item does not have bluetooth. you read the description and be the judge, i think the write up used by Amazon is misleading
Nightmare...and terrible customer service [Posted on 2008-01-22] I have owned many laptops in my life, and finally splurged on the Sony VAIO for its weight and style. Sadly, it didn't even come close to meeting my expectations. Within one year, it went to the repair shop 3 separate times. Worse yet, the problem was never resolved. The touchpad mouse was operating in reverse (up was down, down was up). It was discovered later that this was a hardware issue but by then I was out of warranty and they told me I was out of luck. After paying the Sony Premium for less than premium service, I would strongly caution about buying this machine (or any Sony, for that matter) without the EXTENDED warranty. If you study up as well (http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7587_102-0.html?forumID=69&threadID=252612&messageID=2682557), you'll find that I am not the only one with this problem (both the touchpad AND the customer service/support). Lastly, the battery recently died (less than 2 years old), and it wasn't a recall- just more poor quality I suppose. Regardless, I'm back to Dell (my 5th) and most likely will never stray again.
