Speck ToughSkin for Garmin Nuvi 200 - Good Protection [Posted on 2008-09-10] The main component of this case works. The case is probably much more expensive than it has to be, and it isn't perfect. But if you use your Garmin in Pedestrian mode and need to protect it, this is one of your few options.
The screen protector is not really that great and doesn't offer much proection. Similarly, even though it's possible to use this in your car for regular use, getting the attachments around the case is a somewhat clumsy process that requires a few pieces in addition to the standard mount pieces.
So if you need a case for use in pedestrian mode, definitely check this one out. For car use, you probably don't need this.
Enjoy.
Case good if you don't want to use car mount. [Posted on 2008-09-17] I ordered this product in order to protect our Garmin Nuvi not only while it was stored, but also when transferring it between the house and car or while walking. However only after placing the skin on did it become evident that the Nuvi car mount will not attach. No matter how hard I tried. The case has cutouts in all the right places, but is too thick in the car mount area. If I have to remove the skin in order to use the car mount, it defeats the purpose. It'll be up on ebay soon.
Window mount attachment doesn't work with skin on [Posted on 2008-09-25] Amazon doesn't sell the nuvi widescreen version of this protector, so I'm posting the review of that one here. I bought one for the 260W.
The thing is cool, hopefully does its job of protecting the GPS, but:
1) Their website (speckproducts dot com) claims you can still use your window mount while the protector is on. While it looks like you could, the rubber cover (although thin on the back) is too thick to allow use of the window mount clip.
2) The screen protector was confusing to install and I also got mine dirty and had to throw it away. It also left a sticky film on my screen that I had to wash off.
As for what one reviewer said about the belt clip, mine DID come with a belt clip. I wrote speck yesterday asking for a replacement screen protector but they have not yet replied.
I would have given 5 stars had the window mount clip fit on the GPS while the protector was in use.
work around for windshield clip [Posted on 2008-10-04] The Speck case fits snugly around the Nuvi 260 but its thickness prevents the Garmin windshield mount from wrapping around the Nuvi and clicking into position. I first trimmed a bit off of each end of the case hoping that would hold the clip. It would, but would keep falling off. So, I then put the clip on the 260 without the case and then inserted it in the case to see where the ball clip was. I then cut a small hole and trimmed around it to let the ball through. It works perfectly. Just put the clip on the 260 and then put the whole thing in the case.
Excellent Custom Fit [Posted on 2008-11-02] This is a quality custom fit rubber protection case! All the external ports, controls and mounting points remain totally accessible. No need to remove the case to use all functions of the unit. Design also provides protection against inadvertent tuning on of the unit. I am confident it would prevent case damage if dropped. Unit still fits in the Case Logic AGPS-2 3.5" case even with the Speck Toughskin on it which shows how snug the Speck Toughskin fits. Well worth the price.
