Crow is back ... [Posted on 2008-08-25] Ten years ago, Jesse missed catching Wilson "Crow" Cromartie, and Crow got away with a huge haul from a heist in the rich part of town. Now Crow is back, and asking for Jesse's help - as in, asking Jesse to stay out of his way. He has been assigned to bring a teenage girl - Amber Francisco - home to her father. However, Amber is living with her mother, Fiona, in poverty and embroiled in a Latino gang. However, when Amber's father Louis insists that Crow kill Fiona before bringing Amber to Florida, Crow refuses. He may be a hit man, and a "bad" guy, but he doesn't kill women. Jesse is there to help as he can, and his on-again, off-again relationship with his ex-wife becomes more "on" as she uses the access she has through Jesse to do a documentary on gangs.
Finally, Crow and Jesse come up with an incredibly complex scheme to destroy Louis Francisco and save his daughter, Amber.
This is a fairly short book and I was on several occasions bemused by two page chapters. Nonetheless, it is a fun story - I like Crow a lot and hope we'll see him again. Fans of Parker won't want to miss this one.
I love Jesse Stone [Posted on 2008-09-04] Perhaps it because Tom Selleck has played Jesse Stone or maybe we all want to have a Jesse Stone in our lives but I love these books, the action is fast and the dialogue is funny. Not all the bad guys are completely bad and not all the good guys are completely good. Give Jesse a chance....
Great one liners, but..... [Posted on 2008-09-17] This story takes place ten years after the last incident involving these same characters. However, no one has aged. The same relationship issues between Jesse and Jenn continue, no one seems to be older physically, and things pick up pretty much right were the last book left off. I think Parker took a wrong turn with Molly's character, also. That said, the book is intertaining, full of humor, and written by one of the best authors in the business.
weak [Posted on 2008-10-07] this is definitely not one of parker's finest moments. i found the story itself to be relatively boring and predictable, with a very weak finish. a little more troubling is the author's confusing morality. a girl who sets up her mother to be shot in the head, could care less when she finds out that her father has been executed, and sets up a guy who really cares about her to also be taken out, is rewarded with a million dollar trust fund and loads of people who apparently really care about her so much that they never choose to address her depraved behavior. parker also seems to feel that illicit sex wherever you can find it is perfect behavior as long as it makes you feel good. if the author has children, i feel sorry for them. growing up without being taught the enduring value of virtue robs people of any joy they might discover in their lives.
Love Jesse...Hate Jenn [Posted on 2008-10-11] I love this Jesse Sone novel. If you like Jesse you will like this book. It is more of the "same".
That being said...
I am sick of Jenn. Enough of her already! Get over her!
Enough drinking for Jesse. That is getting old.
I enjoy reading all of the Jesse Stone novels. I love the character. Thus 5 the stars.
I would like to see more of Crow in future books.
