This RPG Game is unlike most other Doom type games. It is not totally linear. Your decisions determine the final outcome of the game. (There are three possible endings for this game.) And unlike Doom style games, you can return to previously conquered areas to retrieve items you may not have been able to carry before. (Like Med-Paks, ammo, etc.) There are even different ways of entering the same areas. (Without using cheat codes.)
This is not a game you can win in one night. Above all, DO NOT BE HASTY WHEN SPEAKING TO THE CHARACTERS OR LISTENING TO THE COMMENTS OF "BLACKBIRD"! If you do so, you may miss VITAL information, necessary to the winning of the game!

overlooked FPS of the 90's [Posted on 2005-08-24]
This game is probably the best FPS i've ever played. It was released in 1996 i believe. I was young.. like 7th or 8th grade maybe, but I loved the game. It uses the DOOM engine, but includes RPG elements. Not all areas/enemies are hostile, and will only attack you if YOU attack them or townsfolk first. Thus making your temper and style determine how difficult your journal will be. You may also talk to various people throughout the game and pick different ways to answer. The game is great and has a memorable soundtrack aswell. I really wish they would have made a sequel to this one. A classic of the 90s

I still play this once a year at least. Compelling story (with multiple paths and endings!), great characters, unique and original weapons (with multiple ammo types and firing modes!), and the best and most complex level design I have ever seen in an FPS... the architecture in these levels is wonderous, with indoor and outdoor locations spanning several miles at points (even if the coloring is a bit on the drab side.) I also have to mention how cool the enemies are. Each one has a specific purpose and personality in combat, and their death animations are epic (especially when they're set on fire or explode and tumble out of their suits). The game has RPG elements in that you can buy supplies at store locations and customize conversations with NPCs (some of which fight beside you.) These elements, like the stealth missions, can almost always be engaged or disregarded at your leisure. All of this on the DOOM engine!

Strife was a crucial part of my gaming childhood. I played the demo over and over and when the full version fell into my posession I almost ruptured. This is the best game ever.
