A variety of problems [Posted on 2008-01-13] I recently purchased Norton 360. I figured I'd invest the money for a program that will allow my PC to run smoothly, watch for viruses and optimize performance. Like the other raters, I have had too many problems with this program. I get a lot of errors, the online secure backup feature won't work, it's constantly asking me to restart my PC, and the auto-fix feature seems to be broken because it is stuck in some loop where it continually tries to fix the same problem over and over. I feel like this was a waste of money and I have had to waste hours waiting in queue to speak with support only to be told 1) restart my PC and when that didn't work to 2) reload Norton 360.
I would not buy this product again.
Norton 360 Nightmare [Posted on 2008-01-15] My experience with this product has been an outright nightmare. I have re-installed twice, had multiple chats with Symantec "Tech Support" and never received a response to my email inquiries. It is my opinion the product does not function correctly and Symantec DOES NOT intend to support the product after purchase. I urge you to buy another product such as Zonealarm by CheckPoint. You will save some money and avoid the nightmares.
paying for a blue screen [Posted on 2008-01-18] I tolerated Norton last year for a whole year, it slowed down my computer, blocked access to common websites, and generally took allot of work. Besides the anti virus software the extra componants are mostly built into Windows already. When I upgraded to 360 a few weeks ago I lost access to my bank's secure website. It took me two hours to get a chat tech support, days after my email request went unanswered. They finally sent me a special program just for removing the program. After running the uninstall I was instructed to reboot. That was the last time I used my computer. Now when I try to reboot I get an error "autochk program cannot be found skiptted autocheck" immediately followed by a BLUE SCREEN error. Windows XP won't even boot up in safe mode now. I talked to Dell tech support, spent 10 hours of work time trying to fix it, and now am on hold waiting for Norton - Symmantec expensive tech support. I have called twice now, the first time the line was disconected after holding for 1 hour, now I've been on hold for 1:35 and still no person. Why pay to get a blue screen error. I thought I was paying for security.
performance hog, poor user control [Posted on 2008-02-24] I used many incarnations of Norton Antivirus, Internet Security, Ghost and finally Norton 360 (2007 edition). 360 was the worst of an increasingly slow set of products. It consistently tied up the Pentium P4 w 2GB RAM system for 3-5 minutes at startup.. It also did not allow nearly as much user control as earlier versions. After 360 turned itself off when the subscription expired, I gave up on Norton. I chose ESET Security a month ago. I have been pleased with its ease of installation, reliable virus scans, usable interface, and minimal lag (about 15-20 seconds) at system startup.
Should have a class action lawsuit against them. Will never buy from Symantec again [Posted on 2008-05-02] I used Norton 360 for some time without problem... then their offer to upgrade "free" to version 2. Within a week (since it wasn't immediately after install, I didn't make the immediate connection) started getting blue screen of death (BSOD) at EVERY 21 minutes like clockwork!!! Was amazing. I first attributed the problem to a thermal issue with the PC... but then after the problem reoccurred after replacing the motherboard and reloading windows and minimal software, I started googling BSOD and Norton. Sure enough!!! I uninstalled Norton 360 v2 and my problem disappeared. One month w/o my primary computer being at all reliable!!! How much TIME I WASTED looking for a solution! You Bast*rds! I'm now happily using AVG antivirus from Grisoft.
