Shallow-coated lesson [Posted on 2008-08-11]
This book series has always been stereotyped as the book that only shallow and rich girls read. Well, I am neither shallow (I hope not) nor rich (maybe in my dreams) but surprisingly, this book was strangely good.

If you read hard enough, you'll discover the message that Lisi Harrison intended to put out. It describes the trials and woes of school, peer pressure, making new friends, dealing with enemies, and just being a girl.

In reality, the girls LH describes are the girls seen today. They are superficial, mean, and catty. But does one really know what goes on in their heads? The insecurities of the populars are revealed, and that is what redeems this book series. How not everyone can be perfect, but still want to act like it.

LH probably wants to show girls that being popular isn't everything. That, in reality, it is the silliest thing to want to fight for. Claire was ridiculous for fighting to be friends with girls who didn't like her. Massie manipulated her friends to terrorize Claire just because she felt threatened. Really, what teenage girls would want to live like this?

The author didn't want girls to model after her characters, but learn from their mistakes. But still, I think that it is a bit silly to put out a strong lesson in such an immature setting. I doubt that 7th graders live like this, try high school.

The humor is a bit sappy, but the characters are all unique and represent the different kinds of obstacles that girls today face. Dylan, with her body issues. Kristen, with her poverty. Alicia, a person who is always overshadowed. Claire, a new girl who just wants to fit in. And Massie, a girl who seems perfect, but actually isn't.

So when reading this book, look through the glamour and glitz and try to see the real message. That makes reading this book worthwhile, I think.

Dial L For Loser is the sixth book of the many books out of The Clique Novels by Lisi Harrison. This story is about Massie Block, Kristen Gregory, Alicia Rivera, Dylan Marvil, and Claire Lyons. These five girls are all in a group called The Pretty Committee, which everybody worships. But not long ago did they get expelled from the exclusive Westchester private school Octavian Country Day School, also known as O.C.D., for getting into big trouble on there Briarwook boys and O.C.D. girls field trip. So on there time off they go to the mall, sip lattes, and shop. But some of them have to do schoolwork and study so they can at least make an effort to get back into Octavian Country Day School.Until they have a conference with the school board to get back in, they need to waste time. What I mean by wasting time is that they have to find something to do and that something has to entertain them. But that was until Dylan told The Pretty Committee that they get backstage passes to Dylan's moms show The Daily Grind, with special guests Hadley Durk and Abby Boyd. This is a big deal because they hated each other and can't stand being by each other or even at the same place. But when they go into the green room and meet Abby Boyd and Hadley Durk they get star struck. This was a very big deal for everyone and they thought this was going to be the best day of their live. And that was all before Dylan invited The Pretty Committee into the bathroom to tell them a secret of Abby's. Which is accidentally overheard by her mom's co-star who has her microphone turned on so that everybody on the set and maybe even in the building can hear what their saying. Well we all know what that, that's a call for DRAMA! After Hadley hears that she refuses to work with a back stabbing co-star, like Abby Boyd, she quits the movie and storms out of the studio. Which leads the movie directoe, Rupert Mann, to notice Th Pretty Committee and invites all of them but Dyland to go for and audition for Hadley's part. But that's what happens when Dylan is heard and seen responsible for causing the drama between Rupert's biggest stars of the movie, Hadley Durk and Abby Boyd. So Rupert doesn't want Dylan to go because of the drama she caused between the two Hollywood actresses. So they all beg their parents if they could go to Hollywood for this once in a lifetime oppurtunity. But only Massie, Alicia, and Claire's parents said yes. So Dylan and Kristen are stuck in Westchester while Alicia, Claire, and Massie are off on a private plane to Hollywood. There first day in Hollywood and they already have to go to The Gelding Studios for their audition. But while they are there at The Gelding Studios they befriend a hot teen starlet, Conner Foley. Who she doesn't know that he is soon to be her new co-star. After the audition was over Rupert announced that the new star of Dial L For Loser is going to be Claire. Along with the movie Claire gets her own personal assistant, a makeup artist, her very own hair stylist, and she gets free clothes from anywhere she wants. That was all Massie and Alicia wanted to hear. So they stormed out with jealousy raging all over them. Then the last thing they wanted to see was Claire riding in a golf cart with her personal assistant. But since they had no idea where they were, Claire offered them a lift. But before they could get back to their hotel they had to go with Claire to wardrobe. When they got there with just a quick look at the room they spotted designer clothing everywhere, completed with accessories and purses. A little while later they went back to their hotel room. While Claire had a night on the town with her famous co-stars, Abby Boyd and Conner Foley. But it won't be long before Massie will get what she wants, and that's a shot at fame. Just after a couple of weeks in California Massie, Massie's mom and Alicia got ready to leave and go back to Westchester, but little did they know that Massie's mom had a little surprise hiding up her sleeve. The morning they're about to leave Massie's mom comes into their room and tells them that Dylan's moms show, The Daily Grind, has a whole part of the show to themselves. Which means that they get to stay in California until Claire is done with the movie. Massie and Alicia's show is to take the audience behind the scenes of Claire's new movie, Dial L For Loser. Everything is going smoothly until Massie and Alicia go to a pharmacy store, buy all this junk and trash Claire's trailer to make her look like she has major flaws and that it makes her trailer look like a pig sty. A little while later Massie and Alicia apoligize for everything they did to hurt Claire. But they turn on her afterwards while Claire is rehearsing a scene from the movie, which includes kissing Conner Foley. While she's doing that Massie takes a picture and sends it to Claire's boyfriend Cam Fisher. Which cause a huge mess and for forgiveness from Massie, Claire wants her to explain everything before she goes back home in a few days. But little did they know when they get home, there beloved friends are throwing a "Congratulation's Claire" and "Welcome back Massie and Alicia" suprise party for them. But the only thing on Claire's mind is that will Cam forgive her. And i am sure we all know the answer to that, yes. Everything was going smoothly until she gets a phone call from somebody asking her to move to California, which causes lots of questions.

Horrible Trash [Posted on 2008-11-02]
I thought that this book was the most unoriginal garbage I have likely ever read in my life. The characters are ridiculous, spiteful and shallow, and nobody could possibly sympathize with them, or relate to them on any account. The plot is weak and cliched. The most horrible part about this book is that the main characters are so totally unlikeable. Also nobody in the actual book even likes each other. They are rich and spoiled and the characters turn on each other constantly . All the characters in this book are like sheep , following their spoiled leader. And it turns out that the only character that is even remotely decent or likable(Claire), is such a weak person that she follows Massie even when she knows that Massie is cheating or being nasty or absolutely unfair ( which she often does).
This is a ridiculous book and encourages people in a round-about fashion to be nasty.
I would advise anyone about to read this book, not to. It's truly a horrible book and a waste of time.

OMG!!! i <33d this book!!! also the series was AHMAZING!!! i started the first book in august and finished the last book in the whole series by christmas!!! i rly hope Lisi makes more in the series!!! im not even a big book person and i couldnt put theese down!!!! i HIGHLY recamend it!!!!

im 12 years od amd i think this book is a must read.i loved it. it really seems like a real middle school life and is just like the experiences i have had as a 6 grader and now that im a 7 grader it still seems real.young girls must read this.some parents may not want their kids to read this for the following reasons
1.language
2attitude
3.the way they act

hopefully they wont rub off on your kids
