Disappointing [Posted on 2007-08-25] This introduction to the bass guitar rushes the reader through the basics without spending enough time actually helping you learn the basics. The bass lines are dull too. However the "play along" tracks on the accompanyting CD are great and probably worth the price of the book.
Review for book [Posted on 2007-11-21] The book is great the shipping was great. I am learning to play the bass guitar and the idiot's guide is just what I need!
Great book but one thing missing [Posted on 2008-01-31] This is a great book. You will learn not only to play the instrument but also to learn how to be a real bassist. You can also learn plenty of stuff about music. You may already see what other reviewers liked about the book. Some people complained that this book contained too much stuff on music, but I believe that you should know far more than that to be a bass player.
However, there is one big missing thing I hope the author add to the next edition. The book does not contain any left hand fingerings at all. You are totally on your own when play the examples. This will be quite a job for a beginner. In addition, I hope the author would take more time to explain left hand techniques such as muting using 3-fret stretching.
Even without details about the left hand stuff, this book is sure far bettern than the majority of other methods book. Overall I recommend this book to anyone.
CD IS BAD [Posted on 2008-02-08] THE BOOK IS GREAT. BUT THE CD THAT I GOT WITH IT IS NOT GOOD IT WILL NOT WORK. IT IS VERY SCRATCHY AND YOU CAN'T HARDLY HEAR IT . AND IT WAS NEW NOT USED.
Highly Recommended [Posted on 2008-10-13] I'm a Software Engineer. My wife is always on to me as to why I have to have umpteen books on a particular subject and only a few on another. I've explained before that it's not a question of how many books you have, it's a question how few you need before a subject can be comprehended.
This is a reference book, it helps to guide an individual towards an understanding of a concept (the how and the why) as opposed to, do this, do that, and do the other, now on to the next thing...
I highly recommend this book to those individuals, who, once a concept has been explained to them actually go out and attain a measure of mastery by applying that concept.
