Whoa! [Posted on 2005-01-08]
Alright now its been a while since I played something I enjoyed as much as this. Im not into PC games and all I can actually play is the Age Of Empires/Mythology series. Anyway, this game tops all my expectations. Its never been so much fun to blow up everything around you. Its amazing the amount of actual detail that has gone into making this game a visual blast. Its really fun at any time. I'm 20 and I seldom get time off my college life to play PC games but this one is just one of the best gifts I bought myself lately. I recommend it to anyone who likes KILL EM ALL freak game play.

Notice the helicopters and the detailed maps next time your playing. For those of you confused I suggest you download a demo of the game. Cheers and good Luck!

Mediocre, not Incredible [Posted on 2006-01-06]
The appeal to this game is that you're supposed to experience the power of the Hulk. For the first half hour or so of the game, this might be true. The ground cracks under your feet, you swat missiles away like gnats, and being the Hulk you, well, smash. Unfortunately the game itself falls apart after a very short while.

First, there are the very annoying Banner missions. The idea behind these is solid; you get to play the Hulk's other half and the levels add a stealth aspect to the game. Unfortunately, the Banner levels are like a very dumbed down version of Metal Gear Solid. The environments are sparse and you're really just standing around as the occasional guard walks by. They get old fast and generally drag down the entertainment value of the game.

The Hulk levels are slightly more fun, but they too get very repetitive very quickly. The Hulk has a handful of smashing moves, including the thunderclap from the comics, and he can pick up rubble and whatnot to throw or to use as a melee weapon. Unfortunately, while the game certainly has a power aspect to it, you don't really feel the Hulk's strength because you spend the whole game fighting soldiers and the gamma dogs from the movie. We're talking about a guy who can bench busses and who swats missiles away with his bare hands; I don't want to spend ten hour hitting soldiers, even if they do have some fancy high-tech shields. What's worse is that these guys actually take multiple hits to go down. I thought the Hulk was supposed to be incredible, not just above average.

Beyond the early and occasional fun of smacking people around as the Hulk, the game offers very little else. The cell-shaded graphics add a nice touch to the game but also look silly at some points. Eric Bana from the movie lends his voice to the game because, well, it's a paycheck. His acting is average at best here, not that he has a lot to work with. The story and script is essentially one excuse to have a boss fight after another. You fight all manner of comic book villains, some of whom, like Half-Life and Flux, do not resemble their comic counterparts in the least. You don't know where they come from or why they're after the Hulk; you only get to figure out their predictable combat pattern in order to best them.

Luckily, this game is rather old by now and can thus be acquired very cheaply. If you have to pay more than ten dollars for it, don't bother. It's not worth your time or money. If you really want to see a game where you get to smash things like the Hulk, with a compelling story and good graphics to boot, pick up Hulk: Ultimate Destruction instead. That game puts this cheap attempt to cash in on the movie franchise to shame.

Only Alot of fun when you're mad.. [Posted on 2006-08-01]
The Hulk has really hard controls to master, and the storyline is confusing because, I am told, it was made like a sequel to the movie. The only time you get to do really fun moves is with the bosses, and then you get to do stuff like pick them up and smash them down on your knee. When you fight your standard little soldiers you don't get to do much except punch them. The parts where you play as Bruce Banner are LAME a.k.a. BORING, or whatever word synonomous to those you prefer. It's hard enough to keep you entertained for a while, but don't spend more than ten dollars on it. Great for a Rainy day though :)

Smash, Sneak, Repeat... [Posted on 2007-05-07]
At first I was really disappointed in the controls for the PC version, this is definitely meant to be played with a controller, which leads me to believe this game is geared more for console play than PC. Also I wasn't thrilled with the missions as David Banner, he gets killed so easy, but that's just me probably. I couldn't wait to turn back into the Hulk and start smashing and kicking stuff, but even then it could get a little repetitious.
Other than that I rather liked this game. The graphics were smooth, sorta comic book style, kind of like XIII, but without the rough outline in black, nothing groundbreaking. The audio and FX were cool, lots of explosions and AI enemy chatter. Good gameplay, I never had a problem with the 3rd person camera angles, although I'm partial to first person perspective. I loved the fact that you could pick stuff up and throw it or use it to pulverize your foes, but I would have liked more usable debris. Hulk's different moves were allright, it's great when you get a combo going and really cause some damage. Most of the bosses you come up against, recycled throughout the game, are pretty challenging, and look fairly menacing. Then there's the almost undefeatable end boss, The Leader, who looks totally stupid. Like some cartoon baddie with a signature goatee and a massive green waterhead, who's dressed in an olympic ice skater's outfit.
All in all a pretty fun game, especially if you're a Hulk fan.

Fun for a day [Posted on 2008-06-18]
What can I say? It's an okay game. The smashing is fun, but it gets old quickly. There are very few move combinations, which makes the game even more bland. Most of the levels consist of you fighting off wave after wave of puny soldiers (who oddly don't die after being punched once by an 800 pound beast).

A few levels you play as Bruce Banner, the scientist who was exposed to the gamma radiation that turns him into the Hulk. They are meant to be a change of pace to the Hulk levels, but they are pointless. Banner is incredibly weak and the levels are not interesting at all.

All in all, this game can be beaten in a day. If you can, rent it when you're bored. Otherwise, buy another game.
