Can't seem to start it [Posted on 2005-10-18] This was a gift and I finally got around to installing it. Or I should say tried. I tried to run it on a laptop and 3 computers but the game will not start. Just a black screen.
The one thing to be aware of is the fact that your monitor card has to be texture and lighting compliant. My nvidia quardo fx 1400 from some reason will not work.
Also, note that Black Isle is dead and Vivendi has a not that they will no longer support this game.
Do not buy it.
If I ever get it running I will come back and change this review.
J.R.R. Tolkiens masterpiece comes on your controller or keyboard! [Posted on 2006-02-12] Now I am a big Tolkien fan and having the special extended versions on DVD, I thought of getting the FOTR (Fellowship of the Ring) PC game. And I love this game! It really captures the spirit though you do have to do a few activities like helping Fatty Bulger (Sorry if I misspelled his name) make a pie, etc. But I played the Two Towers and Return of the King games by EA Games, I hated those two because it did not follow the spirit much. It was also based on the movies by adding spices to a brilliant masterpiece. With FOTR, the graphics are good, the landscape is good, and best of all, it is not based on the movies! They have more characters (Tom Bombadil, and a few characters not mentioned in the movies.) Although they did spice the game up a bit, it captures the spirit of the book.
Now for the good:
Excellent graphics
The old Tolkien spirit lives in this game
Landscape is more like Middle-Earth
Creepy orcs, trolls, and many more monsters
the characters are in order (first you play Frodo, then
Aragorn, and then Gandalf, etc.) Even though some of you people
don't like that, it pretty much follows the book
Bad:
the only one I could find was adding a few scenes to the game that wasn't really needed.
If any gamer likes Tolkien, buy this game, it is worth it!
Decent game [Posted on 2006-04-20] I suppose its decent enough in itself. It follows the storyline of the books and doesn't have irritating cut-scenes from the films. But too many glitches and when i played it crashed my computer thousands of times.
Overall, it's worth a play but beware it may well disappoint!
endless fun [Posted on 2006-07-16] In my daughter's words (age 8.5): I think this is an awsome piece of artwork that Vivendi should be very proud of,though I realized that the 2'nd hall in Moria was very confusing. It took me 1 month to figure it out. And so my sister named it 'the icky place.'But the fun continued. Fighting the balrog, slaying orcs and wargs, this is a lot of hack and slash. Although it's also a lot of puzzles and figuring out where to go and how. The graphics are great, though the characters' hair is very un-realistic, especially Aragorns.
The Fellowship of the Ring Game isn't clear [Posted on 2006-07-29] I found that this game isn't very easily understood. You have to search and scrabble for any answers that you may need. This game needs to have a page for others to view eachother's findings. That would be a help. I enjoyed the books and movies, but the game is very frustrating to understand.
