Worked great for a year...and then Kaput [Posted on 2004-10-11] No problems, fast and cheap until exactly 1 year. Then slowly kept dropping more and more until it never could establish the connection. Not a great choice.
Good but not long lasting [Posted on 2004-11-27] I got this together with my Cox Connection in June 2002. Initially it worked great . Like all I was thrilled because of the high speed internet. But it does not long last. First you start getting drops at times and then more frequently. The life I would say is about 1 to 1.5 years without any drop. Then you need to switch
Usually connects.... [Posted on 2005-07-14] I use this modem for my internet (COX). It always connects, except once, when i was trying to sign on to AIM. (P.S. If any of you wanna give me a shout on AIM my SN is DukeCarMaster987.)
It was just one of the cables in the back. I just plugged it in and it instantly worked. If you wanna get away form stupid dial-up, or you are new to the internet scene, you need this.
Last Word:
Beats dial-up by a long shot.
Good for a While [Posted on 2005-09-18] Like so many others I have had this modem for 2 years now. It was very good for about 1.5 years, with only occasionally drops requiring resetting. Now it drops data constantly and I am shopping for a new modem and it won't be a Toshiba.
Rock solid after 3 1/2 years [Posted on 2006-12-16] I bought this modem in April 2003, and in over 3 1/2 years its performance is rock solid. A speed test this week showed I was receiving near the theoretical max for my service level from my provider, so speed has not and continues not to be a problem. In those many years, I don't think I've reset the device more than once a year at most.
I recently advised a friend to pick one of these up as he is having daily problems with is provider's supplied modem. Unfortunately, it looks like it may not be available anymore through resellers like Amazon. Too bad.
In short, it is hard to find a high-tech product that works perfectly without any effort on your part, but count this modem among that group of devices. If you find one of these, buy it.
