Customer Reviews:

Excelente [Posted on 2007-07-12]

I like the ease of use of the Toshiba but would like to have a physical copy of the manual instead of one to be read on the computer. Hopefully you know how to use a computer before you buy this because the lack of written info about it can a problem. Otherwise it is a great machine.

Great value [Posted on 2007-09-07]
I bought this notebook about 6 weeks ago. Seems like this model is already being phased out by Toshiba. If you can find one at a good price, I recommend it. The new Toshiba (under 1K notebooks) seem to have low end AMD processors. Component prices are pinching them and it seems that Toshiba is decontenting the lower end machines right now. This one is a pretty good value processor, which actually has 2 meg of L2 cache. Also, I priced a couple of the other Toshiba notebooks and it's worth noting that the ones with 200 gig hard drives are actually slower 4200 rpm drives. In my opinion, they made the notebooks run slower, despite having better processors. This hard drive is small at 120 gig but it runs at 5400 rpm, faster than some of their higher end notebooks. I usually have a usb hard drive connected at home most of the time anyhow. Vista home premium runs well with the 2 Gig of memory. And the Aero glass looks terrific on this display. I use mine mostly on A/C power, but if battery life is a problem for you, there is a 9 cell battery available for this line of notebooks. I like the silver keyboard, it doesn't show pawprints. The dark lid does tend to show smudges. Recommend this notebook !

Good solid laptop [Posted on 2008-04-22]
I've had this laptop for a couple of months now and I've been very happy with it. The keyboard is full size and has a good feel, plus having the numeric keypad is a plus. The screen looks great, the sound is fine but I've heard better from HP laptops. It's hefty to haul but not unexpected from a 17" beast. I was able to snag this for [$...] from [...].

I've only rated this laptop a 4 because Toshiba's support is pitiful. The laptop doesn't come with a backup of the initial install, either on CD/DVD or on a hard drive partition, and Toshiba wanted to charge me [$...] to send a DVD with a backup on it. Everyone knows you need to reinstall Windows every year or two to clean out the junk. Toshiba makes this impossible without spending more $$$.

Also, I installed XP on this laptop (which significantly improves performance) and the drivers were difficult to find. Toshiba was (once again) useless in this regard. They were no help with any of the drivers forcing me to find them at various places on the web.

Toshiba hardware: 5
Toshiba crapware and support: 2

Light, fast, big, nWLAN [Posted on 2008-05-25]
Toshiba Satellite P205-S6267 17" Laptop (Intel Core Duo Processor T2350, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB Hard Drive, SuperMulti DVD Drive, Vista Premium)

Worked for more than 1 year now, and am still excited. It never failed. 17" + light = 1-2 hours of battery power - that's the tradeoff I accepted. Enjoy.
