x205 s9349 great all around notebook [Posted on 2007-10-29] Toshiba Satellite X205-S9349 17" Notebook PC (Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7100, 2 GB RAM, 240 GB Hard DRive, HD SuperMulti DVD Drive, Vista Premium)
I guess i hit this notebook on the right day! i got it for 1499.00 free shipping. i have had it for over a week now and so far so good. i did hsve a problem with getting the hd drive to read. i had to search the net on how to fix it. you have to download the drivers yourself for the audio, hd player, and the video card for everything to work properly. you can't use mock drivers either. they have to be toshiba signed. for this particular notebook i had to download the player for the sli version notebook because the one they had for the x205 didn't work either. i was a pain in the neck. once you get everything working, its been wonderful. i just ordered a hdtv to really see what this can do. vista seems to run pretty smooth although slow on the boot. this lappy is beautiful. the screen is huge! and the keyboard is a regular sized desktop board.very functional. i would recommend this lappy to anyone who is techy. but for someone who wants to buy something and expect everything to work out of the box, this lappy isn't for you. well worth what you pay. there is nothing else out there for the money you save. just have someone handy who knows how to install drivers and make sure things are compatible.
A great Laptop [Posted on 2007-11-07] Pros:
Beautiful large screen.
Fast processor and plenty of RAM.
Great video card GRAW2 runs at acceptable FPS with all settings at it s highest .
The sound is fantastic, everyone is always shocked when I play something for them on it.
Very sturdy case, not flimsy at all.
Lots of extra little features on it that aren t mentioned in the description toggle switch for WiFi, volume control spins instead of having hard stop so it works well with the soft volume controls, touchpad can turn into a media control pad .
Cons:
Very large laptop, it actually doesn t fit very well in my X-Large Timbuktu Messenger bag.
The little rubber feet are just glued on and one has already come off.
The power supply is gigantic and literally weighs 3 pounds by itself.
If you are looking for a desktop replacement or a portable mid to high end gaming system, this is a great laptop. If you are not looking for either of these things, take a look at another laptop. This is a very large and powerful laptop that is at the limits of portability. I love mine, but I use it for the reasons mentioned above.
Satellite X205 [Posted on 2008-01-02] Very happy with the delivery and the product. Thus far the only issue is a single dead pixel on the lower area of the screen and a card reader that has trouble deciding if it can read Sony memory sticks...great notebook!
TOSHIBA X205 laptops [Posted on 2008-09-04] I strongly don't recommend this laptop for those who wish to buy this kind.
I am very disappointed with it's performance particularly with it's HD-DVD drive. I have not been using frequently the drive but after a year and a month it just totally non-functional. And Toshiba service center refused to offer warranty and they are charging me 500 US dollars for the drive including service fee. I think this product line did not meet my expectation when it comes to reliability, quality and performance wise. Beware of this notebook PC quality you will just be upset in buying this product. I am really frustrated in buying this laptop.
Personally Didnt like this laptop! [Posted on 2008-10-06] I bought this system back arround December of last year(2007). It was an ok system at the beginning. There were multiple reasons why I didnt like this system. I noticed on the system when I bought it, says Battle Ready Game Enabled Ghost Recon 2 (a pc game). But after installing the game, it said the cpu wasnt compatable(that it was slower than recommended). Second arround Jan 2008, the system started having problems. I took it to a toshiba authorized repair center and they replaced both hard drives, the motherboard for graphic card problem and something else that had to do with the motherboard. And they replaced the network card on the motherboard(it connects to the motherboard). Then I moved arround the end of Jan 2008. Then I started having more problems again with the hard drive. So I sent it in direct to toshiba for repair. They replaced both hard drives 2 times for both. And when I got my laptop back the side where the pci slot on the top cover assy was broken off. And there is some white paper hanging out of the bottom left lcd display.
Ive used a apple, and sony laptop before and Ive never had this much trouble with a system before. I also am a laptop and desktop tech, and Ive never seen any laptop with this much trouble. And I still am having lots of trouble with this system. I plan to just sell it and get a sony or dell.
Just wanted to give this review and let anyone know before they make there decision.
