Just Like Having A Personal Tutor! [Posted on 2006-02-10] I love learning from Total Training videos as you really get your money's worth. It is the fastest and easiest way to learn or hone your skills. This is a very inexpensive way to have your own personal tutor. This 2-DVD training series appealed to me because I have the Adobe Creative Suite 2 and wanted to learn to better use my time or streamline my initial concept to end product. Part 1 of this training series covers creative design for print while part 2 is about output techniques and cool web design. The tutorials are geared for beginner through advanced users. You can go through the lessons in a linear fashion or just jump from chapter to chapter (or sub-chapter) to use the lessons as references and reminders. A nice feature is that it remembers where you left off and goes back to where you left off the last time. You can even bookmark the chapters or sections you may want to revisit and review.
Included in this series are a personal 40-step workflow checklist, free bonus images and all project files. The printed insert displayed all the lessons (chapters and sub-chapters) along with the individual runtimes. The total runtime is approximately 10 hours. You will learn how to utilize the Creative Suite 2 to take a project from design to print-ready or web output. See the complete course outline at [...]You will see that the training is more than just a brief overview of Adobe CS2 and that it is quite thorough. Go from your creative idea inception to the end product!
A large part of this training series dealt with Adobe InDesign but is well rounded to learn the entire product line workflow. It also covers Adobe Bridge, Version Cue, Illustrator, GoLive, Photoshop and a bit of Acrobat. The first of the tutorials dealt with Adobe InDesign CS2. I use Indesign CS2 quite a bit and although I know I don't know everything about the application, I felt confident that I had a pretty good handle on it. Wrong! By watching this tutorial the first time, I learned so many time-saving tips and tricks! I learned a lot more about paragraph styles and time saving ideas about importing Photoshop files. You will be saying many times "Wow, that's an easier way"! The beauty of Adobe's Creative Suite is how easily each component interacts with all the others.
I'm a web designer and desk top publisher and use most of the CS2 components. I haven't updated my Illustrator because I never quite got a good handle on the bezier curves. Steve makes even that look easy and understandable. I just may have to upgrade as I realize that you can do much more with vector rather than rasterized images.
If you have any interest in learning Adobe's Creative Suite 2, you cannot go wrong in getting this title! I highly recommend it.
See Steve Holmes bio and credentials at: [...] There's even a sample QuickTime video to give you a flavor of the presenter and his style. His friendly easy to understand, no nonsense manner allows you to easily learn and retain the information.
System Requirements are: Total Training DVD's are optimized for 1+Ghz for Macs and 2+Ghz for Pentiums and runs on Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Mac OS X.
I ran the DVDs on an iMac G5, 1.8 Ghz, 768MB DDR SDRAM running OS X v. 10.4.4 and an 80 GB HD.
Installation was easy and did not take long. You have the option to install the videos alone (18MB) or with the project files (328MB). The Readme file contained information about troubleshooting of the product, possible updates and minimum requirements for viewing. I found it to be a nice touch in that it was very concise and helpful.
