Trend Micro Anti-Spyware V 3.12 a good application - but who is spying on whom? [Posted on 2006-01-15]
I have tested Trend Micro Anti-spyware for both Desktop and SMB -There is a great deal of good things about this software and there are those that detract from this offering.

The software performs well - especially their Spy-sleuth and Venus Spy Trap which will give you early warning and precise information to changes to your registry or the addition of BHO.

The downside of this software is its never ending quest to update itself. Without either software or hardware constraint the application will check with its parent for updates every 5 minutes 24/7 and it will go through every Port of you PC to try to contact home.

It remains unclear if the application is trying to update itself or spy on your usage.
The following is an example of a constrained Trend Micro AntiSpyware Application being denied access by software Firewalls and the resultant Log entries.

It is not possible to turn off this feature, by any means. I have challenged Trends Micro on the subject, however they remain silent.

If you want to increase you network traffic substantially - don't bother to constrain the application and take the risk of what data this application IS really sending.

Not recommended for sites of more than 5 PC's unless you constrain the Product's access to the Internet - With each PC sending this amount of Traffic every 5 minutes this is valuable Traffic which you need now be robbed from your network.

Conclusion:

This is a good application in detection in real time and in scanning and the CW shredder does its job well - although you still might need the help of a shareware tool such as "CCleaner" to really shred out the nastiness.

Simply the best out there [Posted on 2006-04-30]
Nothing tops it, it is simply the best out there. This thing even has a blacklist and whitelist so you can allow what type of threats you want coming through your computer, and what threats you don't. It does a very thorough scan and by far the best I have seen yet. The only con I would give it is that It does not have password protection, they should have known better than that, but besides that I see nothing wrong with this program. Even has a built in CW Shredder and can clear all your browsing history and temp folder. It's amazing, you've gotta get it, my definitions are updated about every other day.

It installed assorted other programs, slowed my system down BIG TIME, and caused many, many problems and conflicts.

AVOID this completely.

I did the "update" required the day it arrived, made things WORSE!

Waste of money, much better things out there for free. (Spybot, Spywareblaster, etc.)

Spyware Upgrade [Posted on 2006-12-20]
Many people have previously owned Spysubtract from Intermute. Although it was one of the best anti-spyware softwares ever made, many of those owners are set to have a complete overlook to a new version of the spyware software. For those who did own Spysubtract before, you'd have to upgrade to Trend Micro Anti-Spyware 3.0. This software runs exactly like what Spysubtract did, and it delivers much better at detecting spyware, adware and a much more detailed glimpse at the cookies that target and sneak into your life and computer. This is one anti-spyware software I really recommend, it is worth the price.

I have used previous versions of this product and feel it does a decent job of cleaning my computer. Would suggest using in conjunction with other software to ensure your PC remains healthy.
