Amazing...or is it? [Posted on 2006-11-02] Pros:
First of all this is a great ups, i run the following on it:
20.1" Samsung 204B LCD Monitor
Computer (3hdd, 2 optical, Radeon x800 GTO, etc...) on a 430 watt PSU
Creative Gigaworks S750 700 watt surround sound speakers
Diamond Supramax external 56K modem
RCA RS2652 model stereo w/ 200 watts total system power
Sanyo 27" Flat Screen (not flat pannel) CRT-type television
Philips DVDR (dvdr + 160GB HD)
DirecTV satelite box
VCR
I run all that and i hit only 50%-55% on the load...50%-55%! This thing is awesome to be able to keep everything from flickering on and off, from damaging power sags and spikes, and everything.[...]
CONS:
Well, the rated specs say 50 minutes run time, but its more like 5 at half load, well more than enough time to shut down everything to the lowest power state so its mabye 5% load or lower and itll run alot longer*. The manual says, "Backup time (PC with 15" monitor) 60-70 min," that i can believe sinc the power draw will be low and mainly meant for buisness computers thta dont have big graphics cards and speakers. The 4 outlets arent adapter spaced so you do need a surge protector if you have them, but thats no problem. No digital display. Cant turn the alarm off, although you can mute it once it comes on, and you cannot even mute the low battery alarm, which are very loud (~40dB), and will wake you up. There is no Refresh button or anything to allow the refreshment of the battery whih can shorten the lifetime. UPSMon, while a mianstream software, does suck, really bad translation and is a tad confusing on how to set everything. Battery is sealed and non-user replaceable. Surge protection is a MARGINAL 1065 Joules "(6647144658157.95 billion electric volts)**" but "A typical lightning bolt contains 1 billion volts and contains between 10,000 to 200,000 amperes of current."*** but your amps is what does the damage, so if your house gets hit by lightning your fried anyway, but a power surge where the amps arent much above but the volts are your covered.
Bottom Line:
Well, its a great UPS, price is low because this has been replaced by new models with digital LCDs and theyve got to clean out the older models. Biggest drawback is the non-muteable low battery alarm especially if you have this in like a dorm room or apartment and the power goes out at night. And for less than $100, this seems to be the best buy on the market.
*Actually if you let this thing charge for >6 hours you will get a longer runtime, but if the power is flickering on and off everynow and then where it cant get some good solid hours of recharge before discharging again its going to be short.

Boat Anchor [Posted on 2007-01-05] Received this unit intact yesterday. Plugged in and setup unit to run. Shut down with no warning. Called tech support and they told me I had to charge for 6 hours which is not mentioned in the manual. Tried charging and it won't hold a charge.
I should have known better after I received first unit delivered all smashed. This one won't hold a charge. There tech support was not helpful as they did not try to walk me through anything. Last tech determined the unit was no good after my few second explanation of the problem (guess this happens often) and that I would have to send back at my cost.
Stay away from Ultra products... pure junk!
UPS 1000VA AVR Backup System ULT31502 [Posted on 2007-07-05] This it by far the best backup battery I've purchased for my money. i have 4 pentium3 computers (without monitors)running upto 5 min. That gives me plenty of time to go to my basement & flip the circuit breakers on. a must for every computer user.
Good for what it is [Posted on 2007-08-07] This type of unit is superior at stopping those annoying brown outs that don't really take your power down but they make the power "blink" just long enough to force your computer(s) to reboot. If the power completely goes out it also gives you enough time to save documents and turn off your computer but don't expect to fire this thing up during a hurricane and play games for hours. I'd say it lasts 5-20 minutes under typical loads.
