Downgrade for UO [Posted on 2002-02-26]
I was "lucky" enough to beta this "upgrade." The promise of 3D graphics and new lands was very exciting...until I loaded the CD. I got it free, but like at least 90% of UO players, I kept right on using the 2D client. Why? Because the 3D graphics are incredibly ugly compared to the 2D graphics, which included art by a famous fantasy illustrator. The 3D versions which come with this CD look like a 10 year old with a public domain renderer created them. Only the spell effects are acceptable. Everyone I knew who betaed cringed when we heard it it was deemed ready for release. Since then, it has received many patches to improve the speed and to some extent the graphics, but you still won't be happy even after sitting through what I expect will be half an hour of patching. This edition is also out of date already, with the release of Lord Blackthorn's Revenge. Save your money and buy the new version if you are interested in 3D. If you are not interested in 3D, buy the Renaissance edition for under $(...) here. It contains access to almost all the areas and items. The items it lacks you can buy from players who have one of the 3D versions. Another plus if you buy the Blackthorn's Revenge version. It allows you to access the landmass of Ilshenar in 2D. Yes, EA apparently now realizes how terrible a mistake they made with this edition and is backpeddling fast to try and keep their majority of customers who preferred the 2D. The only reason to buy this CD is if you are absolutely sure you will be playing in 3D all the time and you already have multiple 2D accounts. Blackthorn's Revenge requires that you buy a different copy for each account you own to receive all the benefits.

Great Game To Play [Posted on 2002-03-03]
I have been playing UO for about a year now, I started out with Third Dawn. As for the 3d aspect it just about [stinks], and I have more than the minimum requirement, but I play 2d all the time so it doesn't matter to me. If others out there want to get into UO, id recommend buying LBR (Lord Blackthorn's Revenge) just for the simple fact that you are able to access all that 3rd Dawn 3d users can access (illshenar) in 2d without the extreme lag that is encountered with 3d. I myself am getting ready to buy LBR :)

This game is great!!!!!!! [Posted on 2002-03-15]
I have no idea why but most of these responses are negative. I have been playing uo for about a week and i am hooked. I guess most of these people don't have a good enough computer to see the good quality graphics. My computer has no problems and runs the game very fast, whout any lag. Get a better computer and stop complaining uo is a great game.

Too addictive for my own good... [Posted on 2002-06-10]
Contrary to what many say, and what I use to say, pay-to-play is definitely the way to go. It weeds out most of the immature children and maintains a lovely online community. The game it self is one of the most addictive I have ever played. With mass possibilities as to what you can be in the game (Warrior, Mage, Healer, Blacksmith, Tailor, Ranger, etc), you will find it is hard to get bored with this game. The online community you will find is one of the most lovely out there. The people are friendly and immaturity is highly frowned upon. People will give you a helping hand and if you have a want, there are many who will help you fill it. There are two versions on this disc, 3D and 2D. Many old-schoolers will tell you 2D is the way to go with less lag, but I prefer 3D and if you play, you will see why. Either way, you can't complain when they let you have your choice.

I love this game!! [Posted on 2006-01-08]
I have played Ultima Online for 5 years now, starting out when i was 8. I started out with Third Dawn and i was addicted to it, eyes glued to screen and mouth wide open when i saw the graphics. You have many choices in what career path you choose, and unlike most games you can change the path you take and try something new out instead. You have so many choices that (for me) its hard to choose. Mages, warriors, blacksmiths, tailors, rangers, ect. You name it, it will probably be in there. In Ultima Online you can alter your appearance, from brown hair to green hair in a second using hair dye. There are many clothe and armor choices so if you get bored with your appearance, well, change it! Weapons of diffrent choice are also there, so you can always have a more powerful weapon. The people are there to help, and you will most likely find someone that you can get along with. There are guilds, which are like clubs almost, that you can join, whether its because you want the title or because your friends with a guildmember. This game does take patience and hard work though, so if your the kind of person that likes to go through a game in 2 days or less, i think that this game might not be the right one for you. Theres so many places to explore, from woods to deserts, dungeons to islands, cities to deserted villages, theres always somewhere new to explore. Monsters and enemies are of diffrent varities, so you'll never get bored with killing them. This game is great and i highly suggest that you buy Ultima Online, whether its Mondains Legacy (newest version out) our Third Dawn. (but i suggest the newest version out more)
