A good, serviceable phone with great features [Posted on 2008-03-29] The Uniden CEZAI998 is a very easy phone to set up. For us older folks it has nice large buttons and an easy-to-read display with great sound and clarity for incoming calls. I would, however, prefer that the handset of the cordless phone provide better "side tone" to hear my own voice during calls and that it also have a speakerphone capability. In addition, the flat white plastic construction shows kitchen residue if not wiped down repeatedly. Overall, I would recommend this phone for people who want the features important to those with less than perfect sight and hearing while giving the freedom of a cordless phone in addition to the base unit with speakerphone.
phone for sight impaired [Posted on 2008-04-05] I bought this phone for my 70 year old mom. She is sight impaired due to diabetes. She loves this phone for ease of use and she loves the built in answering machine. It also comes with a cordless handset that she has by her bed. The quality is excellent. In fact when my phone goes out I will buy this phone for my household. I would recommend this product.
Great phone! [Posted on 2008-04-07] Perfect condition ~ exactly as pictured ~ excellent price ~ totally pleased with purchase and delivery.
GREAT PHONE FOR HEARING/VISION IMPAIRED [Posted on 2008-04-25] I wish I'd found this phone years ago for a lovely lady who is 80, hard of hearing and suffering from macular degeneration. The large, lit, buttons were great but she especially appreciated clarity of the wireless handset. She said she could hear better on that handset than any other phone she had ever had. Great phone!
OK Phone, but Plenty of Room for Improvement [Posted on 2008-04-27] This phone was purchased for my aunt & uncle, both in their 90's and living in a two-story house. Some of this phone's features are well thought-out and work perfectly, such as the one-touch speed dial buttons and paging from the corded base unit. This phone has several shortcomings, however, that would prevent me from choosing it again (except that one one else seems to offer a better alternative):
* No battery backup--after every power failure, I have to go over and reset the answering machine clock
* Emergency call button poorly located on the cordless handset--easy to press by mistake
* Pager button is also hard to find on the cordless and it doesn't have any one-touch speed dial buttons
* Answering machine buttons are small and difficult to read with poor eyesight--especially for elderly users who aren't familiar with the symbols used on button labels
* Handset audio is mediocre, although speakerphone clarity & mic sensitivity are very good (no speakerphone on cordless handset)
My biggest complaint about this system is that it is non-expandable. There is no way to affiliate an additional cordless handset to use with this system. I guess they assume all seniors & hearing/vision-impaired persons are living in 2-room apartments.
