Outstanding Travel Scanner [Posted on 2007-01-06] I owned this little scanner for over a year before someone in O'Hare pilfered it from my luggage--ARRRGGHHH!!! Am buying a new one because reviews of later models were less than desirable. My experience is that this is a terrific tool for the mobile professional. There are far better choices for a home or office scanner that have ADFs (automatic document feeder), but when you are on the road, in a hotel, at an airport, this scanner gives you the ability to fax or scan documents to allow siginificantly increased productivity. Bottom line: Great travel scanner.
Buy Something Different [Posted on 2007-03-09] I own this but didn't buy it, I was assigned it, brand new, by the company I work for. It attaches through a USB port on a laptop. I suppose it'd work on my desktop, as well, but I'm afraid to try it.
After installing it and configuring the scanner to the lap top, and caliberating it, and practicing with it, I figured it would be easy to use. Which is why I'm giving it the one star it deserves. It is easy to use. I took it to my faciliity, and it would not work. While scanning, it scanned everything in a solid black line. I recalibrated it, and switched USB hubs, and it works. Only when you have a peice of paper going in it. If you buy this, (and I'd shop around,) you must have a peice of paper going into the scanner, before you tell the computer you're scanning. If you donot have paper going into it, and select scan, the scanner will die and disinstall itself, and you have to recalibrate it. If you disconnect the power source from the lap top, and you have the scanner plugged in, the scanner will not be found by the laptop. If you have the mouse into anotehr USB port, the scanner has to be switched with the mouse, this happens too many times for me to be comfortable with it. Frankly, I'm afraid of it. So, don't buy this scanner. It's horrible.
Poor Product and Poor Service [Posted on 2007-04-30] This product worked for about a month when I had to re-image my computer so I went ahead and had the disk sent to me (cost me money) and then they sent the calibration sheets to me (cost me money) and then they told me they sent me the wrong disk and they would have to send me the right one (and get this - they charged me for the second disc as well). What a lousy company to do business with. Unlike most companies that provide computer related equipment, you can't download the software from their website. You have to have them send you the disk and, as mentioned above, they charge you for it. If you eenjoy being very frustrated with poorly trained customer service people and customer service people that reap some sort of joy out of pissing you off, then go ahead and buy it. If not, buy a product from their competitor!!
No so good [Posted on 2007-05-18] The installation fairly annoying. The instructions are inaccurate. No driver is bundled with the install package and the Windows wizard was unable to locate a driver.
I finally gave up on installing it after 2 hrs.
I would look at other options before purchasing this.
The only reason I'm giving it one star is because there is nothing lower.
Piece of garbage [Posted on 2007-08-03] This is my second Visioneer scanner in three months. Bought the Road Warrior, installed it, worked fine. (I agree with the warnings about difficulty in aligning pages to scan.) Then it stopped working. Scans totally black. Uninstalled, reinstalled, etc. Still dead.
So I bought this one (XP100), because I was leaving for a one year overseas trip, and needed it immediately. Yes, I must be a glutton for punishment.
Same deal. Installed, worked fine. I must print, sign and scan docs twice a week. First time I tried to use it on the road, it was totally dead. Got a nice tech guy at a college where my kids are training to help, he got it working once. Next time I booted, dead again.
I will never, never buy Visioneer again. I'm now looking on Amazon for a robust portable scanner to have Fedexed to me overseas by my U. S. office, from another vendor.
