Fantastic toy for ages 1-3! [Posted on 2007-12-11] My kids love this toy. Unlike other "electronic books", this one automatically "knows" what page you're on. The child doesn't have to tell the computer to load the current page, which was the major problem with the Leapfrog system. A toddler can understand pushing a button and hearing a sound, but can't understand loading cartridges or having to tell the machine to "reload" what page he's on.
Enter the Vtech busy book. No cartridges, and actually easy enough for a toddler or young preschooler to do *all by himself*! Sure, it only comes with four books, and five pictures on each page. So what? My kids have a blast with this toy, and use it every day.
Pros:
- The books included are *very* sturdy, with hard plastic pages and bright, interesting pictures.
- It truly is possible for a two-year-old to play with the toy by himself, although it's a great toy for "lap time" as well.
- No cartridges to deal with or lose.
- It's a great deal for the cost.
Cons:
- There are only four included books, and you can't buy more. This is the only way to make a cartridge-free system.
- It is pleasantly simple, with a few pictures per page and only two settings of "difficulty". This makes it perfect for toddlers, but probably too simple for older preschoolers.
All in all, this is one great toy! It used to get daily use when my son was two, and now it gets daily use from his younger sister.
Not such a great Christmas present [Posted on 2007-12-28] My son got this for christmas a few days ago. He is 21 months old. I was debating about returning it, but after reading some reviews, decided that it might be fun to play with...I guess that is where I went wrong. The bee does not always work, making my son angry when he pushes it and nothing happens. I don't think the string is long enough on the bee either, and he has to be sitting in my lap if he wants to play with it, and not sitting next to me. I also have the leapfrog baby leap pad thing, and my son likes that so much better. The on and off button is very enticing to him, as he likes to push it again and again, just to hear it say bye bye. Overall, I would say save your money!
v tech touch and teach busy book [Posted on 2008-01-14] I love that this toy comes with its own carrying case in the back of the book, makes for easy clean up, plus my little one loves to play with it all the time
V Tech Rules [Posted on 2008-01-30] I think vtech toys rule! Great item - keeps kids involved and having fun while learning.
Don't waste your money! [Posted on 2008-10-21] I agree with all the negative reviews regarding this toy. This toy will not work! The 'bee' only works 10% of the time and already my daughter is totally frustrated with it. The song is so annoying when you start it up and there is no way around it. I thought this toy would be a great alternative to the discontinued Leappad, but it's nowhere near as good and I plan on taking it back ASAP. It's a piece of junk, don't waste your money. Vtech is usually so much better than this!!
