I use these at work because they're simple and don't require an external power supply. I use them for backing up computers with Ghost software. They've taken quite a beating in writing & reading hundreds of gigs and still keep working.
I prefer this over Buffalo brand because Buffalo requires two USB ports, and I haven't noticed a speed increase on the buffos as advertised, at least for the things I do with them.
Be warned though on this red one, the color is the top and all 4 sides, but the bottom is still black.
