This game should have a DNB sticker=Do Not Buy!! [Posted on 2002-09-09] This game is bad. The AI on it is terrible. The Japs take at least 3 seconds to shoot at you. The weapon selection is ok, but the selection isnt realstic. Annoying background music, stupid team mates, and levels are very much the same. These developers also make Vietnam Black Ops and World War II Normandy. Normandy is better than this if you want the best one, both..are bad..
-One star. it sucks [Posted on 2002-11-23] OK, I wrote a bad reveiw last time, but i'm not changing my mind, its [terrible]. The game disgraces war games GOOD war games, like the Medal of Honor series. I'm SO SORRY I wanted a game where you had a chance at winnging. Anyway, this doesn't seem to realistic; one guy can carry a Colt .45, garand rifle, shotgun, Thompson submachine gun flamethrower, hand grenades, land mines, AND a bazooka, WOW!! And you seem to be able to run extremely fast. Intresting . . . What a great game . . . as good as my sarcasm. Get MOHAA
Exellent war game [Posted on 2002-11-30] I'm addicted to this game! Great choice of weapons, challenging levels, very good graphics, excellent music that conveys danger. The "easy" and "medium" levels are quite challenging. I've played some missions over a hundred times trying to win on the "hard" level. Game is more realistic because on the hard level you can die with only a few hits, plus there are no med packs. Having soldiers with you on missions creates more room for strategy. Some soldiers are "dumb", that is they just stand there when you sneak up on them. However, many chase you down as soon as you get near them and the ones with machine guns will wipe you out in an instant. Very realistic game in my opinion.
I like this game a lot [Posted on 2004-06-12] The reviewers seem to be divided as to whether or not this game is realistic. No video game ever made is realistic; geez. This game is however a lot of fun, especially for the cheap price of ten dollars. You definately get your money's worth and then some. Very addicttive! Basicly the other reviewers have said it all: 10 weapons, 12 missions, and AI that seems to be sometimes very intelligent and sometimes very stupid. Someone said it had stupid music. I couldn't disagree more. The music in this game is probobly one of its strongest points. It greatly adds to the atmosphere of the game, and is (I think) catchy. It's not the best first person shooter ever made of course, but I'm giving it five stars because for ten dollars, it's definately a five star game.
Addictive & entertaining but totally unrealistic! [Posted on 2005-03-02] I love first-person shooter PC games, and this one (despite it's age) is a whole lot of fun. There are 12 tough combat missions on Iwo Jima and Tarawa, and you have anywhere from one to three squad members to help you in each level. There are 10 weapons available, including a shotgun, Colt .45 pistol, M1 rifle, bazooka, land mines, grenades, flamethrower, Thompson sub-machine gun, M3A1 "grease gun" (machine-gun), and a Kabar knife (which is basically useless!).
To its credit, the game does get some of the authenticity correct, with hidden Japanese bunkers, snipers, and hidden machine gun nests in each level. There are random explosions and enemy grenades thrown from every direction. Your squad members are surprisingly smart, although they're not too bright about trying to dodge enemy bullets (they just stand there and take it until they die!). It takes several bullets (or one good explosion) to kill you in this game, but unfortunately there are no first aid kits or medics available, which sucks.
The weapons you use in this game sound very realistic, but it takes too many bullets to kill enemy soldiers. The Colt pistol is totally inaccurate even at 10 yards(!), and even when you do hit the enemy it takes three bullets! And unless you get a good head shot, it takes up to three bullets from the M1 rifle to bring down an enemy soldier. The best weapons are the Thompson sub-machine gun and the "grease gun", although you never get enough ammo for these particular guns.
Overall, I'd say this is well worth buying if you like first-person shooter games, especially if they're WW2 related. The graphics are pretty good, and the sound effects and music are awesome. This is much cheaper than other WW2 PC games, and this will give you hours of entertainment. And in case you're wondering, this game plays just fine on computers with Windows XP. Highly recommended.
