Western Digital My Passport Essential 160GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Artic White) | List Price: $99.99 Discount Price: $81.99

| Brand: Western Digital Binding: Electronics Warranty: 3 years warranty
Features: D.O.A. [Posted on 2008-12-02] This drive was DOA. I tried using on Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista Home Premium systems and it didn't work on either. I must have got the dud drive and I returned it.
Does what a hard drive should [Posted on 2008-12-02] Picked this up for use as a backup disc for a MacBook using Apple's Time Machine. Runs flawlessly off bus power directly from the laptop. Running without a hitch for nearly 3 months at this point and warrantied for 3 years. Sleek, small, convenient. Have several WD externals and no complaints yet. Well worth it.
The right stuff [Posted on 2008-12-02] the Passport suits my intended use .I bought it to back up all my files and it worked like a charm .should any of my drives fail or my computer crash ,I still have everything on the WD Passport. It's a good feeling.

My 3rd WD Passport and still going strong! [Posted on 2008-12-03] This is my 3rd of these Western Digital Passport drives, they are great! Have not had any problems with the older version of the passport. They run quiet and are very reliable. I used to carry the old clunky 3.5" external drives with the heavy power supply, now I can carry all my data without breaking my back.
Just in my experience, WD drives are very dependable, I tend to stay away from Maxtor who has failed me 3x.
Only a few things to make it better ... [Posted on 2008-12-03] ... like putting a connection light/status light on the opposite end of the drive, instead of the end where the cord goes in. Why? Because the USB cord is so short that you can't necessarily see a status light unless you turn the drive to face you. The only other thing I struggle with is that it doesn't seem to connect through a USB expansion port (despite both being USB 2.0).
Other than that, it's pretty cool, sleek, and the pre-loaded software has worked as indicated. Thumbs up all around.
