Bye by My Book [Posted on 2008-01-25] My Book has gone into the dead cockroach position. It is dead as a door-nail. I need to contact WD to see if they will stand behind their product.
One heck of a product. [Posted on 2008-03-03] I've been an avid fan of WD for years. Whenever I did have a problem with any of the drives I was always able to get assistance from support line.
I bought the triple connectivity drive (eSATA.) I have to tell you this is one of the quietest drives I've ever (not) heard. It's fast and friendly and works like a charm.
Highly recommended!!!
Dead after 4 days [Posted on 2008-05-07] I wish I would of done a bit of research on external hard drives before this purchase. My drive would not light or startup after 4 days of use. Don't take my word for it...Just look at the hundreds of posts on forums and bogs regarding the "My Book" line of WD drives and you will see how widespread the issues/failures are. It's ridiculous.
Worked for four months, then died. [Posted on 2008-07-04] I thought this was the best deal ever. About two houndred bucks for 750 gigs! It worked fine for four months, fast firewire transfer speed, worked great for me.
Then it died. It hasn't responded in three days.
Since day one I've been extremely careful with it, seldom moving it around, keeping it well vented, so you can be sure that it did not break from misuse.
The disk makes a clicking sound, like its trying to read, but after a few tries it turns off altogether.
I'll have to see if the warranty is still valid.
I think longevity is key when it comes to data storage - much more important than price.
Love my hard drive! [Posted on 2008-09-16] I am a reasonably tech savvy person (I could build my own computer easily) and I think this hard drive works well. It hasn't broken down on me, it's consistent, and it hasn't lost or deleted any files without my input. Really, what more can you ask in an external hard drive? I got mine on sale, so it was an excellent value as well. I've now got two of these and I am quite happy with them both.
