It is what I expected to be and more [Posted on 2008-10-28] The velocity for this thing is amazing, sometimes It seems like the USB goes faster than expected, I can easily pass my info from one place to another. Very practical, good size, good look, Im very happy with this stuff
WORST PRODUCTS EVER [Posted on 2008-11-08] Look, I have bought 3 WD external drives. All within 1 to 3 years old. To my surprise my oldest works the best. The last 2 I have bought which one is a little over a year and one about 3 months old have both failed on me. Both of those take an eternity to mount on my desktop if they mount at all. Both have given me a warning that the disk image has failed and unrepairable. I lost quite a bit of my music collection (S-Z) because it corrupted the files. Now, as we speak, I am having a similar problem with this 1TB drive here. DO NOT BUY THEIR CRAPPY PRODUCTS OR YOU WILL REGRET IT. I am now going to have to go to the trouble of getting my money back on 2 drives and have to back up 2 drives full of files that are about 2 TB of space. Talk about a lot of time I will have to put into it. I am not a happy customer. Go with Lacie, I am going to now. I regret it very much that I bought WD because the schmuck at Best Buy said they were the way to go. Goes to show you they know nothing. They also told me to buy the wrong RAM too so screw them and screw WD.
Western Digital 1 TB hard drive [Posted on 2008-11-09] For the moment the drive works flawlessly...its too early to say whether it will last for a long time.
Good buy [Posted on 2008-11-13] Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RDMXZA9UP8I2U Hard Drive works efficiently and without any problems with the XP
Good buy :)
The new edition works great and has updated software [Posted on 2008-12-02] Judging from all the reviews so far, it seems many have had problems with this drive. I just got one at Best Buy recently and have had no problems so far. It also comes with software for both Mac OS and Windows (easy time machine back up, no reformatting needed). My box also looks slightly different than the one pictured above for this product (it has a leaf symbol and the quote "30% more energy efficient" beneath the picture of the drive). At Best Buy, they did have the drives in the older box (like the one pictured), along side the new one.
Comparing what I got to what people have written so far, I believe they are now selling the upgraded version of the drive. Perhaps the first edition out on the market had problems. This one is fine so far. The firewire connection works and the drive is quiet. It is a better bet for me than the USB because I plan to use it as a back up of my videos and the firewire transfer is way faster!
If you plan to buy this drive, make sure to get the newest version which specifically lists Mac OS compatibility and has the leaf symbol on it. WD seems to have made some changes and corrections to the previous design.
