MINE WORKED FOR ABOUT A YEAR [Posted on 2008-07-25] My experience is the reason that everyone should have multiple external hard drives. It's not if they fail. It's WHEN they fail. This cute little hard drive worked for about a year. Then Windows Explorer stopped recognizing it. I did all the troubleshooting myself and with Western Digital tech support. They suggested that I buy a $20 power cord. I said I have no faith that all of a sudden the drive wasn't being powered properly. So I am chucking the drive and instead spent $59 for a year of Carbonite. Won't buy another drive (other than a flash drive) that doesn't use AC. Will not buy another Western Digital hard drive. I paid $87 for this 120 GB drive and that is down the drain.
I have 2 other external hard drives and will stick with those until they fail. I bought a Simpletech here in Amazon in 2005, 120 GB, and it's still working. I bought a Cavalry 120 GB drive in 2006 for $71 and still working. Western Digital lasted a year. Simpletech gets my vote.
Good backup unit [Posted on 2008-08-23] I bought this last September for $91.34 with shipping, and its been a life saver ever since, the only thing you have to be careful with is that when you go to plug it use the Motherboards USB slots (The ones in the back plate), don't use the front ports on your case because the front ports don't give enough power to the HD and can kill it in the long run. All laptop ports are good though.

We had this product for 6 months and it suddenly stopped working with no warning. I lost my entire backup data. The product came with a limited 4 months warranty. Outside the warranty Western Digital require $14/- for technical support per incident, but no assurance of recovering the data. So baisically we have to discard this.
Tough drive! [Posted on 2008-10-24] Not much to report after owning this drive for a bit over a year. Not a single problem out of it. I used it on Windows, OS X, and Linux systems without a hitch.
A wonderful (accidental) test of it's durability was a few months ago. I was in a rush to class and grabbed my laptop without realizing the drive was still connected. Before the computer could suspend (IE the drive was still spinning) I lifted the laptop up, swinging the drive by the cable across my desk and into my rather hard plastic chair. Knowing I'd killed the drive, I picked it up and brought it with me to run a few tests. No funny noises, no read errors, no bad sectors. It's been running fine since!
Honestly, about my only real complaint with this drive would be the case material. While the glossy black looks very nice, it gets fingerprints on it and scratches very easily. Simply trying to wipe it off tends to put very small scratches in the finish.
cant complain, works great [Posted on 2008-11-10] seems to be working out well, no complaints, i like that it does not need to have a seperate power source. they could however do a redesign to make the cable somehow a solid part of the drive, with the option of still being able to use another cable, i dunno, something like that might be nice. Overall, a good solid drive.
